摘要: Disclosed are methods of leasing or billing for the usage of a portable suction pump adapted for use in a suction-assisted would treatment system. The pump has means for recording time units corresponding to periods of time when the pump is operating and for providing reports of usage time. The pump further has means for detecting that the wound treatment system is operating normally so as to be compliant with standards for suction wound treatment, and for recording and reporting time of normal operation or compliant usage. The methods include leasing the pump at a payment schedule that is based upon the amount of actual usage time or the amount of compliant usage time. The lease payment may include an amount of pre-paid time units such that unused time units can be credited to a new or renewed lease for a replacement pump. The billing methods can also be based in whole or in part on a planned maintenance schedule for the pump.

摘要: A method for treating a wound with sutures is disclosed. One method includes placing the body and shaft of the device within a cavity of the wound; attaching a first end of at least one suture to a first side of the wound; passing a second end of the at least one suture through the body and coupling it to the shaft; attaching a second end of the at least one suture to the second side of the wound; and rotating the shaft with respect to the body to pull the first side of the wound and the second side of the wound toward one another.

摘要: The invention provides a vacuum tube attachment device for vacuum assisted wound dressings. The device is in the form of a patch that can be attached to the primary wound cover. The patch forms a substantially air-tight seal to the primary wound cover, and a vacuum tube is fixed to the patch such that the patch can be oriented on the wound cover to locate the tube near an opening in the cover to allow vacuum pressure to be communicated to the wound. The patch has an adhesive area around its perimeter for attaching the patch in a substantially air-tight seal to the wound cover at any convenient location on the cover. Several embodiments of the patch are described.

摘要: A process for the collection of blood from a body cavity requires a controllable flow conduit having an inlet and an outlet. The inlet of the conduit is placed in a body cavity from which blood is to be withdrawn. The outlet of the conduit is connected to the inlet of a blood collection apparatus. The apparatus includes an apparatus body having a first opening therein for connection to a source of suction and a gas-transmitting water seal. The apparatus also includes an autotransfusion collector for collecting and storing blood for optional blood reuse. The collector includes an outer receptacle and an inner receptacle. The inner receptacle includes at least one interior cavity and at least one substantially flexible wall at least partially enclosing the at least one interior cavity. The apparatus also includes a conduit for placing the source of suction in fluid communication with the interior cavity through the water seal. An inlet conduit communicates with the interior cavity and the body cavity for carrying blood to the inner receptacle when suction is applied to the first opening in the apparatus body. Preferably, the outer receptacle is substantially rigid and the collector further includes at least one intermediate cavity between the outer receptacle and the inner receptacle. In a preferred embodiment the intermediate cavity is sealed against fluid communication with the atmosphere.

摘要: An apparatus and method is disclosed for treating blood, by having the blood enter a container, in which essentially insoluble fats (or lipids) are discriminately withdrawn out of the blood as the blood flows through or rises in the container, preferably by means of a wick that is in the container, as the level of blood in the container rises around the wick, such that essentially insoluble lipids on the upper surface of the rising blood are removed from the blood, leaving behind essentially aqueous components of the blood. Clots, bone chips and the like are also removed from the blood by means of a filter.
