Abstract: A pixel includes a photodiode, an overflow circuit, a first sensing circuit, and a second sensing circuit. The first sensing circuit charges and discharges a cathode capacitance by a photocurrent flowing through a photodiode, and amplifies an obtained voltage by a source follower amplifier so as to be outputted to a data line. The second sensing circuit charges and discharged the cathode capacitance by the photocurrent flowing through the photodiode, and outputs electric charge stored in the cathode capacitance via the data line. A pixel circuit is configured so that a first mode in which the first sensing circuit becomes active and a second mode in which the second sensing circuit becomes active can be switched. The first mode and the second mode are switched according to an amount of light received by the photodiode included in each pixel circuit. Gain is controlled according to the amount of light received, in the first mode, and the storage time is controlled in the second mode.

Abstract: Regarding the solid-state imaging device and the driving method therefor, each picture cell includes a photoelectric conversion portion, a capacitive element, a comparator portion, a reset portion and a select switch element. A control voltage application portion applies a first control voltage to a control line during a signal charging period to make a voltage of the output terminal of the photoelectric conversion portion deviate from the transition region of the comparator portion and applies a second control voltage to the control line during a signal reading period to bring the voltage of the output terminal of the photoelectric conversion portion into the transition region of the comparator portion. A load device that serves as a common load for the comparator portions of picture cells is connected between a signal line and a power source of a prescribed electric voltage.

Abstract: An intelligence information processing system is composed of an associative memory and a serial processing-type computer. Input pattern information is associated with the associative memory, and pattern recognition based on the computer evaluates an associative output. In accordance with this evaluation, an associative and restrictive condition is repeatedly added to the energy function of a neural network constituting the associative memory, thereby converging the associative output on a stable state of the energy. The converged associative output is verified with intelligence information stored in a computer memory. The associative and restrictive condition is again repeatedly added to the energy function in accordance with the verification so as to produce an output from the system.

Abstract: In a light-responsive semiconductor device in which the laser oscillation state is controlled by incident light, a layer of material having a conductivity modulatable by light is integrated in a semiconductor laser structure and is responsive to the incident light for the control of the laser oscillation state of the device. In one embodiment constituting a light logic element, a plurality of semiconductor lasers are integrated on a substrate with each respective semiconductor laser having a grating along the entirety or a portion thereof and provided with a light waveguide connecting with a waveguide of an adjacent semiconductor laser. In a bistable semiconductor laser there are provided two different conductivity type light confinement layers, an active layer comprising a multiple quantum well structure which is between the two light confinement layers, a grating provided close to the quantum well active layer. The oscillation wavelength established by the grating is shorter than the peak gain wavelength produced by the quantum well active layer.
