A composition for curing autoimmune diseases is disclosed. The composition comprises as an effective component an acidic heteropolysaccharide which is secreted by a callus induced from a plant belonging to the genus Polianthes L. The acidic heteropolysaccharide can be prepared as a uniform product by the application of plant tissue culture methods and exhibits superior capability of removing immunocomplexes with the least side effects.

It comprises culturing a tissue explant of an undifferentiated male flower of a coconut tree in a culture medium, which contains 10-50 ppm of an auxin, 0.1-3% of a polysaccharide produced by a bacterium of Pseudomonas and 0.05-1% of activated carbon, in a dark place until a shoot-like structure appears; and then culturing under exposure to light of 3,000-20,000 luxes while repeating its subculture in a fresh culture medium.

The polysaccharide can be prepared by culturing a callus induced from a plant belonging to the genus Polianthes L. in a culture medium containing plant hormones. The polysaccharide can be used as a component of agents for external application and detergents, and provides good moisturizing effects and a smooth, satisfying feeling upon use. When formulated in detergents, they produce remarkable improvement in a clean, rich feeling upon use.

Novel alkaline cellulase K, CMCase I and CMCase II are obtained by isolation from a culture product of Bacillus sp KSM-635.These enzymes stably work in a wide range including an alkaline side, and their activity is shown even at low temperatures. Further, they have a strong resistance to surface active agents, chelating agents and proteinases. Therefore, they can be effectively utilized not only as an additive for clothing detergents, but also as a biomass and in other fields.
