Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for implementation in a cable modem termination system that is communicatively coupled to a first wireless access device configured to provide wireless connectivity to at least one mobile unit. The method includes receiving a request to allocate resources to the first wireless access device for a wireless connection to the mobile unit. The requested resources are determined based upon a quality of service associated with the mobile unit. The method also includes determining whether to grant the request for the resources based on policy information received from a policy server and providing information indicating whether the requested resources have been granted.
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides a method for implementation in a policy control and charging rules functional entity in a wireless communication system. The method includes receiving, from at least one of a source policy and charging enforcement function in a source access network or a target policy and charging enforcement function in a target access network, information indicative of a mobile unit that has handed off from the source access network to the target access network. The method also includes establishing a first session for communicating policy and charging rules associated with the mobile unit. The first session is concurrent with a second session for communicating policy and charging rules associated with the mobile unit. The second session was previously established with the source policy and charging enforcement function in the source access network. The method further includes transmitting at least one policy and charging rule to the target policy and charging enforcement function using the first session.
Abstract:
In an embodiment, there is provided a method for reducing the load due to user location change reporting for location-based policy and/or charging control services for said user, in a mobile communication system wherein granularity of user location includes granularity at cell level and/or granularity at service area level, a service area (or Location or Routing or Tracking Area) comprising a set of cells defined at network operation level, a method wherein said user location change reporting is based on at least one of: a granularity of reporting at a base station level, whereby a user location change is reported upon change of serving base station, a granularity of reporting at a policy area level, whereby a user location change is reported upon entering or leaving a policy area, a policy area comprising a set of cells and/or serving areas, defined at policy and/or charging control level, for a granularity of reporting at a cell level or at a service area level or at a policy area level, a deferred user location change reporting until user plane activity is resumed, in case said user is not currently active in the user plane.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for establishing a plurality of flows between an application server and user equipment to support one or more applications. The method includes transmitting a group request from the application server to a policy server. The group request is to establish the flows and includes information indicating one or more relationships between the flows. The method also includes receiving, at the application server and from the policy server, a response to the group request indicating whether the flows have been established subject to one or more constraints imposed by the relationship(s).

Abstract:
An automatic call distribution system wherein, when no agent is immediately available, and the calculated delay before an agent is likely to become available is above a predetermined threshold, a record is made of the calling number (either received as part of call set up or inputs from the caller), and the record is queued. When an agent becomes available, or after a predetermined time, the ACD removes the top entry from the queue, places a call to the received calling number, and presents the call to an available agent.
Abstract:
Traffic measurements and network management controls are applied in an exchange in real-time on a per-route basis. Selection of an idle circuit between two exchanges is done by first selecting a route and path based on a route busy/idle status map, a source destination restriction map defining restriction on a route for certain sources, and a second connection map defining availability of a second link in a two link connection. A circuit group busy/idle map for a selected route is consulted to find an idle circuit group and finally, a circuit is selected from a circuit group which is known to have at least one idle circuit. Traffic measurements, including measurements of attempts, seizures and answers are recorded on a per-route basis with a specific indication as to the source of the traffic in the event of a direct route. Traffic measurements are also made to record traffic routed to an alternate route and the identity of the alternate route as well as traffic received as alternate route traffic from another route together with the identity of that route. Data defining routes and alternate routes which have a low completion rate are identified and network management controls are automatically applied to the routes for affected destination codes. Circuit reservation levels are defined which allow the selective control of alternate or direct traffic on a route based on the number of idle circuits in a route.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a call admission control method for use in a wireless communication network that includes a femtocell that is coupled to the wireless communication network via a wireline communication network. The method includes receiving, at a call admission controller in the wireless communication network, a request to initiate a call between user equipment and the femtocell. The method also includes accessing, at the call admission controller, information indicating resources available in the wireline communication network to provide a wired connection between the femtocell and the wireless communication network. The method further includes determining, at the call admission controller, whether to admit the call based on the information indicating the resources available in the wireline communication network.
