The blades of the mixers are mostly rectangular in shape and a minimum of six in number. The angle of inclination of the blades of the lower mixer is around 50-70° and that of the upper mixer around 25-35°. The number of baffles is at least six and their range around 20% of the reactor diameter. The invention is focused also the corresponding method.

The invention relates to a method for guiding a dispersion of two liquids formed in the mixing stage of liquid-liquid extraction along the longitudinal axis of the separation section in the feed end of an extraction separation section. In particular the method and equipment relate to the extraction process used in the recovery of metals. In accordance with the method the dispersion to be fed into the separation section is guided so that it spreads evenly over the cross-section of the separation section using a directional member placed so as to obtain a vertical flow. The equipment in accordance with the invention consists of a directional member, which is in turn made up of at least two separate parts.

In a method according to the invention, a dispersion coming from a mixer part is conducted from downwards to the liquid part of the settler, into the middle part of the feed end, wherefrom it is set to be distributed to inside the settler part, in a closed channel-like space located in the immediate vicinity of the settler along the whole width of the settler and the flow therefrom mainly above the channel-like part towards the rear end of the settler. The method according to the invention is realized by means of an apparatus where an uptake shaft extending from the dispersion mixing tank to the settler opens into the feed end of the settler, from where there are further directed distribution channels towards the settler side edges. The invention relates to a method for adjusting the flow velocity of reaction gas and the dispersion air of pulverous solids when feeding reaction gas and finely divided solids to the reaction shaft (6) of a suspension smelting furnace for creating a controlled and adjustable suspension. Reaction gas (8) is fed into the furnace from around a finely divided solid material flow (5), so that said solids are distributed with an orientation towards the reaction gas by means of dispersion air. The flow velocity and discharge direction of the reaction gas to the reaction shaft are adjusted steplessly by means of a specially shaped adjusting member (10) moving vertically in the reaction gas channel (13) and by means of a specially shaped cooling block (12) surrounding the reaction gas channel (13) and located on the arch of the reaction shaft. The velocity of the reaction gas is adjusted to be suitable, irrespective of the desired gas quantity, in the discharge orifice (14) located at the bottom edge of the reaction shaft arch (11), and from said orifice the gas is discharged into the reaction shaft (6) and forms there a suspension with the pulverous material, and the dispersion air needed for dispersing said material is adjusted according to the supply of the pulverous material. A multiphase scrubber for the wet scrubbing of gases in several different phases comprises at least three separate basic scrubbing units so that the scrubbing of the gas is carried out in at least three, advantageously six, successive steps. The droplet separation of the scrubbed gases is carried out in a uniform cyclone-like droplet separator composed of several nested cylinders. A clean dropless gas contains a dust content below the acceptable limit. The scrubber is suited for scrubbing hot furnace gases from closed reduction furnaces.

The invention relates to a method for extracting metals from large solution flows in liquid--liquid solvent extraction and to an apparatus for realizing the same. By employing the method and apparatus of the invention, it is possible to choose which phase is maintained continuous at the dispersion stage, while the other phase remains as drops, to prevent the aeration of the organic phase and to pump the phases further at a low circumferential speed in order to prevent emulsification. Another object of the invention is to make the dispersion removed from the settler unit spread in the settler unit over the whole transversal area thereof. The invention relates to a flotation mechanism (4) comprising a directional element (25) and vertical vanes (26) located in a flotation cell (2). The directional element is symmetrical and is fixed at the center to the lower section of the hollow shaft of the mechanism. According to the corresponding method, due to the directional element (25), which is cylindrically inclined downwards from the outer edge the flotation mechanism directs the gas-slurry suspension that is formed in a downward slanting direction towards the side wall of the cell. The mineral suspension rises upwards from the side wall towards the center of the cell, from where the flow is diverted to the edges of the cell and the froth generated is removed from the cell. Using this flotation mechanism enables a powerful agitation, extending throughout the entire mixing zone (I).
