Abstract:
An improved sealing arrangement 40 is provided for a replaceable cylinder liner 10. The sealing arrangement 40 includes a seal 26 in the form of a band that is positioned in an annular groove 28 under a flange seat 20 of the cylinder liner 10. The annular groove 28 includes a first and a second undercut 30,34 that provides a relief area for the seal 26 to deflect into lessening the opportunity of damage to the seal 26. The first and second undercuts 30,34 also relieve stress in the axial direction improving the fatigue life of the cylinder liner 10.
Abstract:
The design and manufacture of past fuel injection systems required extensive modification of the cylinder head in order to provide and actuate hydraulically actuated fuel injectors. Additionally, methods to avoid the cylinder head modifications have presented reliability concerns. The present invention overcomes these problems by providing an adapter assembly releasably connected to the cylinder head. The adapter assembly includes an adapter which has an integrally formed actuating fluid manifold and an integrally formed fuel manifold. The present invention provides a means for communicating between the actuating fluid manifold and the actuating fluid inlet passage of a hydraulically actuated fuel injector and a means for communicating between the fuel manifold and the fuel inlet passage of the fuel injector. Actuating fluid is communicated through the actuating fluid manifold and into the actuating fluid inlet passage in order to actuate the fuel injector. This results in a more reliable system which eliminates costly modifications to the cylinder head.
Abstract:
The disclosure concerns an electrical contact for conducting high current densities in a minimum of space and with improved connection between the contact and the socket. The contact includes a split, internally tapered circular sleeve which is mounted in spring-loaded engagement in a socket. A tapered contact pin conforms to the split sleeve and when inserted causes the sleeve to be wedged between the pin and the socket. The compression spring generates large contact pressures in a relatively short length of connector travel, thus enabling the mechanical advantage of the coupling mechanism to accomplish connector engagement with minimal operator effort.
Abstract:
The disclosure concerns an electrical contact for conducting high current densities in a minimum space at acceptable operating temperatures and lower contact resistance than conventional slotted contacts of equivalent size. The contact pin is formed in a series of cascaded extensions and the contact receptacle contains respective sections each threaded or otherwise joined within the other. The external receptacle section and the cascaded pin are made of oxygen-free copper for maximum conductivity.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to shims 10, 24 adapted for placement between a rocker shaft 42 and rocker shaft mounts 62, 64. The rocker shaft mounts 62, 64 project from the cylinder head 60 of an internal combustion engine. The shims 10, 24 are composed of a copper alloy, preferably bronze.

Abstract:
In a hydraulic pump assembly, an annular sleeve member is radially interposed between an outer peripheral surface portion of an input shaft and an inner peripheral surface portion of a cylinder block or barrel within which are provided a plurality of piston cylinders for accommodating a plurality of pumping pistons. The outer peripheral surface portion of the input shaft includes an outer peripheral splined section, and the inner peripheral surface portion of the cylinder block or barrel includes an inner peripheral splined section. The annular sleeve member is provided with the inner peripheral splined portion for splined engagement with the outer peripheral splined portion of the input shaft and with the outer peripheral splined portion for engagement with the inner peripheral splined portion of the cylinder block or barrel. In this manner, a dual splined interconnection system is defined between the input shaft, the annular sleeve member and the cylinder block or barrel.
Abstract:
At least two torque paths between a driver and a camshaft distribute dynamic torque applied to the camshaft, allowing for cancellation of undesirable torque components. The second torque path has a greater number of gears than the first torque path, and acts as a constraint on the camshaft, ameliorating discontinuities in camshaft rotation due to sudden changes in load on the camshaft.
