In one embodiment, an airway assembly includes an outer tube, an inner tube disposed coaxially with the outer tube, and a seal disposed on the inner tube. The seal is movable between a collapsed position and an expanded position where the seal engages an airway. Another embodiment is an airway assembly that includes an outer tube having a proximal portion and a distal portion, and an inner tube disposed coaxially with the outer tube. The inner tube has a proximal portion and a distal portion. The proximal portion of the outer tube has an outer diameter that is larger than an outer diameter of the distal portion of the outer tube. The proximal portion of the inner tube has an outer diameter that is larger than an outer diameter of the distal portion of the inner tube. A further embodiment provides a method of using an airway assembly in an airway. The method comprises the steps of: providing an airway assembly having an outer tube, an inner tube disposed coaxially with the outer tube, and a seal disposed on the inner tube. The seal is inserted into the airway. The seal is moved from a collapsed position to an expanded position where the seal engages the airway. Fluid is moved through the inner tube and the seal. An additional embodiment provides a method of using an airway assembly in an airway. The method comprises the steps of: providing an airway assembly having an outer tube, and an inner tube disposed coaxially with the outer tube. The airway assembly is placed in a first status. The airway assembly is inserted into an airway when the airway assembly is in the first status. The outer tube is moved with respect to the inner tube to place the airway assembly in a second status. The outer tube is moved with respect to the inner tube to place the airway assembly in a third status.

    摘要: In some embodiments, an airway assembly may be used in a procedure that requires tracheal intubation. The airway assembly may include a first conduit, a sleeve, and a stent. The first conduit and the sleeve may be relatively flexible, facilitating insertion of the airway assembly in a body lumen (e.g., an air passage way). The first conduit may function to deliver gases (e.g., air) to the body lumen and consequently the patient. The first conduit may be positioned in the sleeve during use. The sleeve may be removably coupled to the first conduit. In certain embodiments, a sleeve may function to inhibit a stent from expanding until desired. In some embodiments, an elongated member may be positionable in the first conduit. The elongated member may be configurable to substantially retain a new shape upon deformation. The stent may be coupled towards the distal end of the first conduit. The stent may function to inhibit the body lumen from collapsing. In certain embodiments, a stent may function to inhibit the body lumen from collapsing without exerting unnecessary outward pressures on the inner surface of the body lumen.

A tissue sample may be positioned in the sample opening when the sample needle is inserted into tissue of a patient. The biopsy needle assembly may be removed from the patient and the sample may be removed from the sample opening. In some embodiments, the sample needle may be inserted in tissue through an instrument (e.g., an endoscope). The biopsy needle assembly may include a sheath that inhibits a sample needle and a cutter from contacting the instrument when the biopsy needle is inserted in the instrument.

An endoscope may be positionable in the stent delivery system facilitating direct visual observation during placement of the stent. The stent delivery system may include a first conduit, wherein the endoscope is positionable. A second conduit, wherein the first conduit is positionable, may function to releasably position the stent in the body lumen during use. The stent delivery system may include a lock that functions to inhibit movement of the first conduit relative to the second conduit during use. Retraction of the distal end of the second conduit, relative to the first conduit and the stent, may deploy the stent in a body lumen. Indicia, visibly positioned on the proximal end of the stent delivery system, may function to facilitate determination of an extent of deployment of the stent during use.
