Systems and methods for reducing PTO gear rattle include a moveable input gear engaging and intermediate to an output gear and a transmission gear. The input gear is carried on an input gear carrier moveable such that the input gear centerline moves along a plane substantially perpendicular to a plane running between the centerlines of the output and transmission gears. The input gear travel is limited by the output and transmission gears such that the input gear is biased to engage at least one of the output gear and the transmission gear, thereby reducing or eliminating gear rattle from overly loose engagement between meshing teeth on the input gear and the transmission gear or output gear.

Systems and methods for mounting components to machinery, including machinery with a rotatable shaft, are disclosed. Embodiments include systems and methods for mounting auxiliary devices, such as hydraulic pumps or electric generators, to a power takeoff (PTO). In some embodiments, the mounting system maintains alignment of the auxiliary device with the PTO while allowing hand rotation of the auxiliary device to an appropriate orientation and secures the auxiliary device to the PTO in the selected orientation. Embodiments include a stationary member that connects to a PTO and captures a rotatable member between the stationary member and the PTO. When the appropriate orientation of the auxiliary device is achieved, the rotatable member can be moved toward the auxiliary device to connect to the auxiliary device and to engage the stationary member (and to possibly engage teeth in the stationary member) to lock the orientation of the rotatable member.

Power takeoff lubrication devices and methods are disclosed. Embodiments include an accumulator connected to a power takeoff fluid supply line and storing fluid (which may be under pressure) for selective use independent of the fluid being supplied by the fluid supply line. In some embodiments, the fluid in the accumulator is supplied to various components within the power takeoff, including the clutch plates (which may have fluid supplied prior to and/or during engagement), which can decrease wear and/or clutch temperature. In some embodiments, the fluid in the accumulator is supplied to the clutch piston to actuate the clutch piston when the pressure in the supply line is less than optimal and/or to stabilize the pressures in the hydraulic lines connected to the clutch piston. In still further embodiments, the fluid in the accumulator is supplied to the clutch when the fluid supply line pressure is less than optimal.

At least one damper prevents rotational engagement between the first gear and second gear until a rotational load is applied. The intermediate gear rotates about fixed rotational axis. The input gear is attached to the intermediate gear by a support whereby the rotational axis of the input gear is capable of pivoting about the rotational axis of the intermediate gear at a fixed distance, following an arcuate path. The input gear is configured to engage a transmission gear, and biased to pivot toward the transmission gear, thereby reducing or eliminating gear rattle from overly loose engagement between meshing teeth on the intermediate and transmission gears.
