Abstract:
An inductor includes a core that has a window (164). The core includes a first core member and a second core member. A first winding is coupled to the first core member and a second winding is coupled to the second core member. A shell surrounds the core. Pairs of gaps between the core and the shell provide flux paths.
Abstract:
A valve actuator for an internal combustion engine, comprising of a core having a wound coil located therein, the core further having at least one permanent magnet located at least partially within a space defined by the coil and positioned at an angle relative to a direction of movement of an armature, and at least an air gap adjacent to the at least one permanent magnet and wherein the air gap is wholly contained in the core and configured to reduce flux leakage.
Abstract:
Rotational electric machine stator winding arrangement characterized, inter alia, by at least one coil of each parallel circuit being discontinuous with the other coils of the corresponding circuit, and by coils configured to accept phase voltage not being adjacent coils having a point at the lowest potential of a corresponding circuit.
Abstract:
Measured or otherwise known operating characteristics of a DC/DC power converter are used to determine, without measuring, an operating characteristic of the DC/DC power converter.

Abstract:
A method for charging an electric storage battery in a plug-in electric vehicle through a power supply circuit includes coupling a charger to the circuit, providing the charger with a signal representing a current capacity of the circuit, using the signal to determine a maximum charge rate corresponds to the current capacity of the circuit represented by the signal, and charging the battery through the circuit and charger at the maximum charge rate.
Abstract:
A dual coil half bridge converter adapted to be coupled to a dual coil actuator of a cylinder valve in an internal combustion engine is described. In one example, the converter has a first and second capacitor and a voltage source, where the converter is actuated via switches to individually energizing coils in said dual coil actuator. A voltage regulator is also shown for maintaining midpoint voltage during unequal loading of different actuator coils in the converter.
Abstract:
A method for initializing valves of an engine having a starting apparatus is disclosed. The engine may have electromechanically actuated cylinder valves. The method comprises moving at least a first valve away from a neutral position of the first valve before the engine is rotated by said starting apparatus; and moving at least a second valve away from a neutral position of the second valve after the engine is rotated by said starting apparatus.
Abstract:
An energy conversion system transfers energy between an energy source, or storage unit, and an electric device via a first port and a second port and at least one of receives and provides energy via a third port.
Abstract:
A DC-to-DC converter is provided and generally configured for implementation with an electric motor drive system. In at least one embodiment, the DC-to-DC converter includes first and second capacitors, an inductor, and first and second switching devices. The DC-to-DC converter is bi-directional to facilitate voltage transfer therethrough. In at least another embodiment, the electric motor drive system comprises an energy storage device, a drive unit, an electric motor and a bi-directional DC-to-DC converter. The energy storage device includes a positive and a negative terminal. The drive unit includes a first and second terminal. The electric motor is in electrical communication with the drive unit.
