摘要： Disclosed is a method and an apparatus for decomposing organic halogen-containing compounds by using ultraviolet radiation. In the decomposition method, the organic halogen-containing compound is dissolved in a solvent to form a liquid, and the liquid is exposed to ultraviolet radiation in the substantial absence of alkaline material. Then, the liquid is treated with an alkaline material. The decomposition apparatus for the organic halogen-containing compound comprises: preparation means for preparing a liquid containing the organic halogen-containing compound and a solvent in which the organic halogen-containing compound can be dissolved; exposure means for exposing the liquid to light radiation of an effective wavelength for initiating decomposition of the organic halogen-containing compound in the substantial absence of an alkaline material; and treatment means for treating the liquid with an alkaline material.

摘要： Suction apparatus for holding workpieces such as semiconductor substrates or wafers having different diameters comprises a table having an upper surface with a plurality of concentric circular air grooves having different diameters and a plurality of sleeves in radial arcuately spaced bores, respectively, for selectively switching a vacuum source to all or less than all of the grooves. In a preferred embodiment, each sleeve is rotatable about its axis and has a plurality of axially spaced holes which communicate with the vacuum source through the central axial passage in the sleeve. Correspondingly axially spaced holes in the table connect the respective grooves with the bore and are registerable with the sleeve holes through selective rotation of the sleeve to connect the vacuum source and the grooves. The respective sleeves control different numbers of grooves as each is rotated between operating and non-operating positions so as to hold wafers of correspondingly different diameters to the table without necessitating costly and time consuming replacement of major structural components.

摘要： An ice cream having a property of excellent meltdown in the mouth, a fat content of 5 to 18% by weight and an overrun of 10 to 150% by weight, containing air cells of 60 .mu.m or more in diameter at a ratio of at least 80% of the total air cells, is disclosed. Further, a process for producing an ice cream having a property of excellent softness even at a freezing temperature, which comprises incorporating air into an ice cream mix in a first cylinder of the cylinders of two linked continuous freezers to give an overrun, transferring the mix to a second cylinder at a specific temperature, and then mixing and kneading the mix in the second cylinder without giving any additional overrun. In the process for production, an apparatus characterized by having a pipeline linking an apparatus for supplying the rest of an ice cream mix to a pipeline linking the first cylinder and the second cylinder of the cylinders of 2 linked continuous freezers is used.

摘要： A vacuum filtration apparatus is provided with one or more vacuum chambers fixedly secured at predetermined positions. The interior of the vacuum chamber alternates between a partial vacuum and atmospheric pressure. An endless filter belt has a horizontal section disposed above the vacuum chamber. A slurry is fed from one or more slurry feeders onto the horizontal section of the endless filter belt so as to create a cake of solid particles. Water is fed from one or more water feeders onto the cake to wash the solid particles on the endless filter belt. The endless filter belt intermittently advances by a predetermined length. When the endless filter belt is stopped, the vacuum chamber is under a vacuum so as to draw the liquid constituent from the slurry, thereby obtaining a purified cake of the solid particles. The vacuum filtration apparatus is provided with a coupling bar at which the slurry feeder and the water feeder is attached. The coupling bar can reciprocate along the endless filter belt by the length of the intermittent advancement of the endless belt. Preferably, the coupling bar is connected to a belt advancing device so that the advancement of the endless filter belt causes movement of the slurry feeder and the water feeder in the direction which is the reverse of the direction of advancement of the endless filter belt.

Also, the method for biodegradation of organic compounds is characteristic in that the microorganism thus isolated, for example, Komagatella brevis, is contacted with contaminated soil or contaminated underground water, and without the addition of additives or inducing substances for organic compounds decomposing enzymes, may effectively biodegrade the organic compounds in the environment.
