    摘要： A method for using a needle assembly for an intradermal injection, and a drug delivery device is provided, which includes a needle cannula and a limiter surrounding the needle cannula and includes a skin engaging surface on the limiter. The limiter is moveable from a first position in which an elongate portion of the needle cannula is exposed for access to a medication vial, to a locked second position in which the limiter is not movable from the second position to the first position. In the second position, the needle tip extends beyond the skin engaging surface a distance of about 3 mm or less.

    摘要： An intradermal delivery method for use in intradermally injecting substances into the skin of an animal includes a needle cannula supported by a hub portion that is attachable to a prefillable container. A limiter portion surrounds the needle cannula and extends away from the hub portion toward a forward tip of the needle cannula. The limiter portion includes a skin engaging surface extending in a plane generally perpendicular to an axis of the needle cannula. The skin engaging surface is received against skin of an animal to administer an intradermal injection. The forward tip extends beyond the skin engaging surface a distance that enables penetration of the needle cannula into the dermis layer of the skin of the animal enabling injection of the substance into the dermis layer of the animal. The device includes enclosure means that is moveable for concealing the needle cannula after the injection has been administered.

    摘要： A prefillable delivery device for administering intradermal injections includes a prefillable container adapted to store a substance. The substance is expelled through a needle cannula having a forward tip adapted to administer the intradermal injection. A limiter surrounds the needle cannula having a generally flat skin engaging surface extending in a plane generally perpendicular to the needle cannula. An insert is centrally located within the skin engaging surface and is piercable by the forward tip. A sleeve with a first end and a second end surrounds the prefillable container. The limiter is slidably inserted through the first end and the second end is affixed to a depressable plunger for expelling the substance from the container. The limiter is movable between a first position and a second position thereby exposing the forward tip and is selectively movable between a third position and a fourth position thereby concealing the forward tip.

    摘要： An operable variable-volume vented container assembly for use in administering parenteral fluids includes a housing having a chamber for retaining fluid. A distal end portion of the housing has a passsageway therethrough for communicating with the chamber. Venting means communicating between the chamber and the exterior of the housing, for allowing air to enter the housing as fluid leaves the chamber through the passageway, is provided. The venting means includes an air-permeable liquid-impermeable element positioned to allow gases passing through the venting means to pass through the element. The element is porous and capable of developing sufficiently high surface tension under contact to serve as a barrier against liquid passsage therethrough during normal use of the container assembly. A stopper is slidably positioned in fluid tight engagement inside the housing.

    摘要： A filling system for syringes utilizing short needles to be filled from a vial having a thick septum is described. The system may be useful in any situation where the septum or vial stopper of a medication container is thicker than the usable length of the needle on the delivery device. Preferably, the syringe is filled just prior to use. The short needle includes an optional limiter which only permits a certain predetermined length of the needle cannula to protrude beyond the limiter a distance which limits penetration of the needle tip into both the skin and a vial stopper. The system and adapter may be useful for needles having a protrusion distance from approximately 0.5 mm to 3 mm, or any needle with a protrusion length shorter that the thickness of a septum to be accessed. Furthermore, a device is provided with shielding capabilities to shield the needle of the device.

    摘要： A medical device is provided which includes a shield system and a syringe which is coupled to the shield system. The shield system includes a syringe holder and a shield which is slidably coupled to the holder. A spring resiliently urges the shield from a retracted position to an extended position. Stop members are provided on the holder and shield for maintaining the shield in the retracted position. The syringe is slidably coupled to the holder, and extends within the shield. Axial movement of the syringe with respect to the holder causes disengagement of the stop members, allowing the spring to move the shield to the extended position. Detents are provided on the holder for maintaining the shield in the extended position.
