摘要:
Apparatus and methods for the production of a secure supply of breathable air are important under conditions where threats from chemical and biological weapons may be present. A catalytic oxidation (CATOX) system may include of at least two primary elements: (1) a catalyst to destroy toxic chemicals by oxidation, and (2) a post treatment filter (PTF, also known as a post treatment adsorbent (PTA)) to remove acidic gases that may be produced by reaction over the catalyst and also remove acidic gases that can not be oxidized. Biological materials may be destroyed by sterilization at the CATOX normal operating temperatures. The catalyst and the post treatment filter may be operated in a two-stage manner, each operating at an independent temperature.
摘要:
A system and process to deplete or remove oxygen in the ullage of a fuel tank to reduce the oxygen/fuel vapor ratio below a lower explosion limit by exposing the ullage compounds to an oxygen removal catalyst active at a relatively low temperature. The oxygen removal catalyst may be a non-precious metal catalyst. A selective reaction of the oxygen by the catalyst forms primarily alcohols, aldehydes, and/or ketones and produces less than about 5% water by volume. The selective reaction, occurring at the relatively low temperature, reduces the risk of flammability of the fuel.

An environmental control system includes a catalytic reactor and a post treatment filter for cleaning incoming air, and a vapor cycle system for conditioning the air.

An aircraft environmental control system includes a catalytic converter having ozone-destroying capability. A surface of the catalytic converter is anodized to form an anodized layer, and the metal oxide layer is washcoated to form a washcoat layer. An ozone destroying catalyst is impregnated in the anodized and washcoat layers. The catalyst may include one or more metals. For example, a bimetallic catalyst may include a precious metal and a transition metal.

Apparatus and methods for the production of a secure supply of breathable air are important under conditions where threats from chemical and biological weapons may be present. A method and a multi-stage CATOX system for producing a purified air flow from ambient air which may have nitrogen containing toxicants is provided. The multi-stage CATOX system has a first stage and second stage, at least one of the first or the second stage has a first catalytic heat exchanger with a cold side supporting a first catalyst and a hot side configured to transfer heat therefrom to the first catalyst.

Apparatus, systems, and methods for the efficient decomposition of ozone in an air stream from an air intake of an aircraft. The apparatus includes a titania catalyst support on a substrate, and a catalyst composition on the titania. The catalyst composition comprises a silver-based component, comprising silver metal or silver oxide, and a palladium-based component comprising an oxide of palladium or palladium metal. The air stream may be from a dedicated ambient air compressor or from bleed air from a gas turbine engine. The invention allows for the effective removal of ozone from the air stream to provide cleansed air having an ozone level of 0.1 ppm or less over a range of operating temperatures from 100 to 500° F. and above during a service period of at least 20,000 hours or a time period of not less than 5 years.
