摘要: The nanoparticle purifying system includes a container having an interior portion including a plurality of aluminum plates. Each of the plurality of aluminum plates includes a solid filtering agent, such as activated charcoal and, optionally, sodium tetra borate. The container can further include an inlet for receiving polluted air, an outlet for discharging purified air, and a pathway extending between the plurality of aluminum plates from the inlet to the outlet. The nanoparticle purifying system includes a removable lid for disposing on the container. Each of the plurality of aluminum plates can include an adhesive, such as hot glue and/or carpet glue, for attaching the solid filtering agent to the surfaces of the plurality of to aluminum plates and interior surfaces of the container.

摘要: A decontamination system useful for treating articles that have been exposed to nuclear, chemical or biological (NBC) agents may comprise a decontamination unit, a catalytic oxidation (CATOX) reactor connected to decontaminate off gases from the decontamination unit and a selector valve The selector valve may be configured to allow output gases from the CATOX reactor to pass to an exhaust during steady-state operation of the CATOX reactor and to allow said output gases to re-enter the CATOX reactor during warm-up of the CATOX reactor. Warm-up of the CATOX reactor may be quickly achieved as a result of recycling the output gases through the preheater during warm-up.

摘要: Ice-clad machinery and equipment in very cold environments are made more easily recoverable by enclosing the machinery and equipment in an environmentally contained area and introducing desiccant dehumidified air into the contained area to lower the vapor pressure in fostering a “sublimation” process conversion from the solid state of the ice to a gaseous state which can be exhausted without first going through any intermediate liquid state.

摘要: Metal oxide area decontamination apparatus (10) is provided which is designed for rapid, emergency situation decontamination of areas contaminated with potentially harmful or lethal chemical and/or biological warfare agents or other hazardous substances. The apparatus (10) preferably includes a pressurizable metallic container (12) equipped with a valve-type delivery nozzle assembly (16), so that upon a manipulation of the assembly (16), a spray of metal oxide and/or metal hydroxide particles is generated; the particles are selected and sized in order to destroy or chemisorb the contaminating agents. The preferred decontamination agent is MgO aggregated to an average aggregate size of from about 50 nm-10 microns. The particles are mixed with a gaseous or liquid propellant within the container (12) allowing rapid and thorough particle cleanout when the nozzle assembly (16) is actuated.

摘要: A self-powered, personally wearable air purifier includes a sequence of packed bed filter media packets having filter media therein of specifically targeted types that will absorb those ambient air pollutants that have been identified as being particularly dangerous to human health. A HEPA filter is included for the removal of particulate matter that will have adhered thereto many of such pollutants. Media types can be selected to meet different environmental circumstances, including normal highway or city center air, or terrorist attacks of chemical, biological or “dirty bomb” types as on a battlefield or similar environments. Shoulder straps and a chest strap are provided for wearing the apparatus on a user's back, or other means such as a shoulder pouch can also be employed. Emergency substitution of filter media using thermal insulation from the clothing of the user is available upon depletion of the normal media material.

摘要: Airborne or aqueous organic compound collection using carbon nanotubes. Exposure of carbon nanotube-coated disks to controlled atmospheres of chemical warefare (CW)-related compounds provide superior extraction and retention efficiencies compared to commercially available airborne organic compound collectors. For example, the carbon nanotube-coated collectors were four (4) times more efficient toward concentrating dimethylmethyl-phosphonate (DMMP), a CW surrogate, than Carboxen, the optimized carbonized polymer for CW-related vapor collections. In addition to DMMP, the carbon nanotube-coated material possesses high collection efficiencies for the CW-related compounds diisopropylaminoethanol (DIEA), and diisopropylmethylphosphonate (DIMP).
