    Abstract: A rim sealing strip comprising: a circumferentially elongated rim strip having a radially outwardly facing outboard surface, a radially inwardly facing inboard surface, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge laterally spaced from the first lateral edge; where the rim strip includes an overall lateral width between the first lateral edge and the second lateral edge and a radial thickness between the outboard surface and the inboard surface; and where the radial thickness is variable across the lateral width to include a first lateral region having a first radial thickness and a second lateral region having a second radial thickness, where the first radial thickness is thicker than the second radial thickness. A rim sealing system comprising: a circumferentially elongated rim strip having a radially outwardly facing outboard surface, a radially inwardly facing inboard surface, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge laterally spaced from the first lateral edge; a rim to receive the circumferentially elongated rim strip, where the rim includes a radially outwardly projecting first bead flange, a radially outwardly projecting second bead flange laterally spaced from the first bead flange, and a radially outwardly facing tire bed surface positioned laterally between the first bead flange and the second bead flange, and where the inboard surface of the rim strip circumscribes the tire bed surface; where the rim strip includes an overall lateral width between the first lateral edge and the second lateral edge and a radial thickness between the outboard surface and the inboard surface; and where the radial thickness is variable across the lateral width to include a first lateral region having a first radial thickness and a second lateral region having a second radial thickness, where the first radial thickness is thicker than the second radial thickness. A rim sealing strip comprising: a circumferentially elongated rim strip having a radially outwardly facing outboard surface, a radially inwardly facing inboard surface, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge laterally spaced from the first lateral edge; where the rim strip includes an overall lateral width between the first lateral edge and the second lateral edge and a radial thickness between the outboard surface and the inboard surface; and where the rim strip includes a first lateral region and a second lateral region laterally adjoining the first lateral region; and where the material stiffness of the first lateral region has greater stiffness than the material stiffness of the second lateral region. A rim comprising: a rim, the rim comprising: a radially outwardly facing tire bed surface along a circumference of the rim; and channel laterally positioned generally in the center of the tire bed surface and along the entire circumference; where the tire bed surface includes an unsealed opening there through to communicate to the atmosphere; and where the channel has a lateral width that completely laterally overlaps the opening. A rim system comprising: a rim, the rim comprising: a tire bed surface along a circumference of the rim; a channel generally in the center of the inner surface and generally along the entire circumference; a rim strip configured to be removeably seated in the channel; and rim tape configured to adhere to the tire bed surface and the rim strip. An air barrier for a tubeless rim, the air barrier comprising: a rim strip configured to be removeably seated in a center channel located on a tire bed surface along a circumference of a tubeless rim; and rim tape configured to adhere to the inner surface and the rim strip. A rim sealing strip comprising: a circumferentially elongated rim strip having a radially outwardly facing outboard surface, a radially inwardly facing inboard surface, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge laterally spaced from the first lateral edge; where the rim strip includes an overall lateral width between the first lateral edge and the second lateral edge and a radial thickness between the outboard surface and the inboard surface; and where the rim strip includes a first lateral region and a second lateral region laterally adjoining the first lateral region; and where at least one of: (i) the radial thickness is variable across the lateral width to include a first lateral region having a first radial thickness and a second lateral region having a second radial thickness, where the first radial thickness is thicker than the second radial thickness; and (ii) the material stiffness of the first lateral region is greater than the material stiffness of the second lateral region.

    Abstract: A vehicle wheel axle assembly having: an axle sleeve with first and second end faces and an axial opening having a radially inwardly projecting first engagement surface; and a control shaft with a radially outwardly projecting second engagement surface. The control shaft is axially retained to the axle sleeve by an overlie engagement at an engagement interface between the first and second engagement surfaces to limit the axial displacement of the control shaft in a retracting direction relative to the axle sleeve. At least one of: the first engagement surface is in an engagement element discreet from and axially retained to the axle sleeve such that the engagement element may be installed to the axle sleeve and/or removed from the axle sleeve; and the second engagement surface is in an engagement element discreet from and axially retained to the control shaft such that the engagement element may be installed to the control shaft and/or removed from the control shaft.

    Abstract: A tensile element connection, comprising first and second bracing elements and a tensile element having a first portion connected to the first bracing element and a second portion opposed to the first portion and connected to the second bracing element, and an applied tensile load along the tensile element. The tensile element includes a preformed rod that is comprised of reinforcement fibers in a matrix. At a temporarily elevated temperature greater than the service temperature, a localized region of the matrix is in a softened state of increased deformability such that a localized region of the rod is deformed under pressure to include a laterally outwardly projecting engagement surface. The tensile element is comprised of said rod with the engagement surface formed therein and is connected to one of the first and second bracing elements by means of an overlie engagement at the engagement surface to restrain the tension load.

    Abstract: An expandable shaft assembly including an axially extending shaft with an axial axis, an extending shaft with an axial axis, an external dimension, at least one shaft end and a bore extending generally axially from the at least one shaft end. The shaft assembly also includes a second element, as an axle cap, with an axially extending, externally threaded portion with a first thread flank, a shoulder portion extending in a generally radially outwardly direction. The bore of the shaft includes an axially extending, internally threaded portion with a second thread flank, wherein at least one of the first and second thread flanks are inclined. The externally threaded portion of the second element is threadably engaged with the internally threaded portion of the shaft such that the first thread flank contacts the second thread flank. In addition, the shoulder portion of the second element is pressed against the end face and the inclined thread flank is wedged against at least one of the first thread flank and second thread flank to provide radial expansion of the external dimension in an expansion region.
