Abstract:
The current disclosure teaches and describes a generator assembly and related hand crank devices. One embodiment of the device may include a traditional generator, a handle and a crank link. The crank link is rotatably connected to the handle in a perpendicular position. A user may hold the handle and wield the hand crank device to make the crank link rotate around the handle like a clock hand, enabling the generator to provide power to the hand crank device. Such wielding motion may also be driven by other forces. The current design allows the user to charge the device with only one hand and with ease. In addition, the “functioning” components of the current hand crank device may be housed in or attached to either the handle or crank link, or both. Other components may also be introduced to make the generator assembly more efficient and easy to use.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and system for determining an aerodynamic drag area CxA of a moving vehicle, for example a bicycle, in dependence upon the airflow yaw direction and speed without the use of a wind tunnel. The vehicle is equipped with sensors for collecting time-stamped values indicative of the vehicle speed, propulsion force, airflow speed and yaw angle of the airflow at various points during the trip. The trip data are then processed using successively refined hypotheses regarding the CxA(yaw) dependence to generate a plurality of elevation profiles for the travelled path. The generated elevation profiles are then evaluated based on available route elevation information to select a correct dependence of the aerodynamic drag area upon the yaw angle of the airflow.
Abstract:
Novel aromatic guanidine compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is hydroxyl, methyl or hydroxymethyl and R.sub.2 is hydrogen or methyl, are found to have biological activity. The guanidine compounds and their salts are shown to be active as vasoconstrictor agents and create useful pharmaceutical preparations when deployed with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for administration to a host, e.g., man, requiring vasoconstrictive therapy.

Abstract:
A pharmaceutical preparation consisting of a pharmaceutical grade carrier and a therapeutically active amount of an aromatic guanidine compound having the formula: ##STR1## or a non-toxic acid addition salt thereof are found to have biologically useful activity. These guanidine preparations and salts are shown to be active as vasoconstrictor agents and obtain useful biological results when deployed with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for administration to a host, e.g., man, requiring vasoconstrictive therapy.

Resin peptides useful in the preparation of salmon calcitonin are disclosed along with processes for preparing the same. The invention also embraces peptides from which the resin moiety has been cleaved and which are useful in the synthesis of salmon calcitonin together with processes for preparing the cleaved peptides. In general, the processes involve the solid phase synthesis procedures.

Abstract:
A drinking straw includes a straw, a fixed collar, and a moveable collar. The straw has an upper part having an open upper end for reception in the mouth of a user, a lower part having an open lower end for immersion in a liquid to be sucked through the straw by the user, a convoluted part provided between the upper and lower parts, a passageway extending through the fix collar and a side wall of the lower part of the straw, and a moveable collar for selectively closing and opening the passageway, whereby when the passageway is in an opening position inside the moveable collar, air is sucked into the straw through the passageway when liquid is sucked through the straw by the user, thereby to create vibrations in the convoluted part of the straw.
