    摘要: A lighting unit including an illumination element, and an electric circuit comprising electric power supply leads, coupled with the illumination element and operable to deliver electric power to the illumination element for actuation thereof, having an electric fuse integrally coupled to at least one of the leads to provide electrical isolation of the lighting unit in the event of an electrical short therein. The invention has particular utility in application to electroluminescent lamp units, of a type which is usefully employed in assembly of multi-unit electroluminescent lamp arrays. When provided in a parallel circuit arrangement comprising a multiplicity of individually fused lamps on a common power feed, the failure of any one lamp will not cause any other lamp to cease operation.

    摘要: A mount for an arc discharge lamp has a cathode thereon which is encircled by a disintegration shield. There is a gap in the shield and a mercury-containing glass capsule disposed proximate the gap. The capsule is supported on the shield by means of an axial wire in the capsule extending beyond both ends of the capsule and welded to the shield. A crack in the glass permits the mercury in the capsule to develop a vapor pressure in the lamp.

    摘要: A circuit breaker has a thermally sensitive bimetal connected across two lead-in wires in a glass envelope. An electrically conductive bypass element is in parallel with the bimetal and shorts it out. The bypass element can be removed from the circuit by melting it by means of a short duration pulse of high electric current. The bimetal contains means to prevent its ends from welding together should an arc occur when the bypass element is melted.

    摘要: A robust coiled filament electrode for a fluorescent lamp used in high vibration environments. A cylindrical mandrel is placed within coils in each end of a coiled filament electrode. The mandrel and the coiled filament electrode are held by a mounting post. The mounting post is bent over and crimped, holding the mandrel and coiled filament electrode. The mandrel extends inward between the two mounting posts, providing support for the coiled filament electrodes. The coiled filament electrode may be made by method or process of chemically dissolving selected portions of a mandrel. Lamp life is extended, as well as the variance between lamp life is substantially reduced. The present invention is particularly applicable to applications in avionics.

    摘要: A current consumption control system for controlling the current draw of an electric power-consuming device, e.g., a modular strip lighting unit for a lighting system including at least one said unit, in which the strip lighting unit includes at least one light source element operatively coupled to a lighting circuit. The lighting circuit may illustratively comprise at least one pair of primary conduction lines connectable to a voltage source, and coupled in electrical circuit relationship with a current regulating circuit. The current regulating circuit includes an operational amplifier which is coupled with the primary conduction lines to generate a reference voltage, and which is coupled with positve and negative current input lines, with at least one power-consuming device coupled to the current output of the operational amplifier, and to the negative current input line. In such arrangement, the operational amplifier compares (i) the reference voltage to (ii) the voltage differential between the positive current input and the negative current input of the operational amplifier, and responsively adjusts current at the current output of the operational amplifier to the power-consuming element, to maintain a selected power consumption level by the electrical power-consuming element, independent of the input voltage across the primary conduction lines.
