    摘要: A well tool having a magnetically coupled position sensor. In operation of a well tool, relative displacement is produced between members of the well tool. A magnetically coupled position sensor includes one magnet assembly attached to a member for displacement therewith and another magnet assembly movably attached to the other member and magnetically coupled to the first magnet assembly for displacement therewith. The position sensor further includes a magnetically permeable material which increases a magnetic flux density between the magnet assemblies. The magnetically permeable material may be positioned between magnets of the magnet assemblies and/or spaced apart therefrom.

    摘要: A disconnect tool includes a housing that has a first segment and a second segment. A first collet is coupled to the first segment and has a first plurality of fingers, each of the first plurality of fingers is bendable between a first position in which the fingers engage the first segment and prevent relative sliding movement between the first and second segments, and a second position in which the fingers do not engage the first segment and do not prevent relative sliding movement between the first and second segments. A first piston is positioned in the housing and has a third position wherein the piston engages and prevents the fingers from bending from the first position, and a fourth position wherein the piston does not engage and prevent the fingers from bending from the first position. The disconnect tool includes means for selectively retaining the first piston in the third position and means for moving the first piston from the third position to the fourth position. On-board and surface control systems may be incorporated to permit selective active of the disconnect mechanism. In addition, couplings and connector employing shape-memory materials may be included to secure the tool to coiled tubing, and a wireline.

    摘要: A downhole tractor is provided that includes a housing and a first wheel assembly coupled to the housing that is operable to translate away from the housing in a first direction. The first wheel assembly has a first electric motor, a first wheel, and a first reduction gear assembly coupled between the first electric motor and the first wheel. A second wheel assembly is coupled to the housing and is operable to translate away from the housing in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction. The second wheel assembly has a second electric motor, a second wheel, and a second reduction gear assembly coupled between the second electric motor and the second wheel. A fluid ram is coupled to the first and second wheel assemblies for selectively translating the first and second wheel assemblies toward and away from the housing. A first controller is provided for controlling the flow of current to the first and second electric motors. On-board and surface control systems may be incorporated to permit selective active of the wheels assemblies. In addition, couplings and connectors employing shape-memory materials may be included to secure the tractor to coiled tubing or a wireline.

    摘要: A thermal insulation vessel is provided that includes a first housing has a first internal cavity and an inner wall. A first plurality of magnets are coupled to the first housing and positioned proximate the inner wall in circumferentially spaced-apart relation. A second housing is positioned in the first internal cavity and has a second internal cavity and an outer wall. A second plurality of magnets is coupled to the second housing and positioned proximate the outer wall in circumferentially spaced-apart relation. The second plurality of magnets interacts with the first plurality of magnets to maintain a gap between the inner wall and the outer wall. The vessel may be used to thermally isolate components within or for use with various downhole tools. Magnetic levitation eliminates most and possibly all pathways for conductive heat transfer.

    摘要: An apparatus for measuring the resistivity of earth formations penetrated by a wellbore having a conductive conduit. The apparatus includes an elongated sonde mandrel, a plurality of electrodes positioned at axially spaced apart locations along the mandrel, the electrodes being electrically insulated from the mandrel and from each other, the electrodes adapted to electrically contact the conduit and positioned collinearly so that the electrodes contact the conduit when the mandrel is radially displaced towards the wall of the conduit. Some electrodes are for injecting electrical current into the conduit, other electrodes are for measuring voltage drop along the conduit at axially spaced apart locations. The mandrel includes selectively extensible locking arms for urging the mandrel into contact with the conduit. The arms are radially positioned opposite to the electrodes. The apparatus includes a source of electrical current connected to the current injector electrodes, a circuit for measuring output of the source of electrical current, voltage measuring circuits connected to the voltage drop electrodes, and means for recording measurements of current and voltage drop.
