To automatically adjust the gap to the optimum distance through which signatures are passing, the apparatus includes gap adjusting mechanism 17 for adjusting the gap between a pair of folding rollers 14 and 14 to press and fold signature 1, detecting unit 23 for detecting transfer state information relative to actually passing the printed sheets through the gap between the pair of the folding rollers; and controller 24 for controlling the gap adjusting mechanism so that the gap between the folding rollers corresponds to the transfer state information detected by the detecting unit.

In a water process in the case of employing the processless plate, control is performed so that while a plate cylinder with the processless plate placed thereon is being rotated without actual contact with continuous paper, the water process is performed only for a predetermined period of time, and continuous paper travels at a lower speed than a peripheral speed of the plate cylinder.

摘要： An apparatus and method for driving a printing press, which are capable of easily and properly performing a water process on a processless plate so that the labor of an operator can be lessened, and also capable of printing that employs the processless plate in order to suppress an increase in the make ready time of the printing press itself and an increase in waste paper due to the water process. The apparatus includes plate determining means for determining whether a printing plate placed on a plate cylinder (31b to 34b) of a printing unit by plate exchange is the processless plate. The apparatus further includes control means 9 which, if the printing plate is determined to be the processless plate by the plate determining means, performs control so that the plate cylinder (31b to 34b) is rotated at a preset speed without actual contact with printing paper and also the water process is performed only for a preset period of time.

摘要： A fluctuation characteristic of registration between images printed by individual printing units (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D) while changing print speed is predicted for each of particular printing conditions that affect the registration fluctuation characteristic. Based on the predicted fluctuation characteristic of registration, a control characteristic of the phase between plate cylinders (5, 5, 5, 5) of the individual printing units (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D) is preliminarily set so as to compensate for vertical image misregistration between images printed by the individual printing units (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D), and is stored in a database (32). Then, when the print speed is being changed, from among the plural phase control characteristics thus preliminarily stored in the database (32), a phase control characteristic that corresponds to a printing condition concerning the current printing is selected, and the phase relation between the plate cylinders (5, 5, 5, 5) of the individual printing units (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D) is being modified according to the selected phase control characteristic. Thereby vertical image misregistration can be suppressed and the occurrence of brokes due to the change of print speed can be prevented.
