摘要: A method of operating an ink jet printing mechanism to print onto a printable surface an image having a solid black portion occupying a selected region, and a color portion abutting the black portion. The method comprises printing a first plurality of color ink dots of a first color onto the selected region and after printing the color ink dots, printing black ink onto the selected region to generate the solid black portion. The color printing need not entirely be printed before any black is printed, and may be printed as a uniform, partial density pattern coextensive with the black regions.

摘要: A method for processing a detected eye of an image to provide visual enhancement. The method includes determining whether an eye exists within an image. The eye includes an eye color. If the eye exists within the image, the method also includes determining the location of the eye within the image. Furthermore, the method includes processing the eye to provide visual enhancement to the eye without substantially changing the hue of the eye color of the eye.

摘要: A system for compressing bilevel data includes a first cache memory having a plurality of assigned levels of usage, a first usage level assigned to a most recently used data segments and a second level assigned to a plurality of less recently used data segments. A processor determines if a received data segment is found in the cache memory and, if not, it assigns the received data segment to the cache memory's first level in place of a previous data segment stored therein. The previous data segment is assigned to a position in the second level in place of a less recently used data segment. The less recently used data segment that is displaced is chosen by a pseudo-random method. A not-found indication is then transmitted to a receiving station along with the identity of the received data segment. The receiving station contains identical cache structures and updates its caches in response to received code words and data segments. A further version of the invention emplaces data segments into cache memories in accordance with the context in which the data segments are found, the cache memories being assigned in accordance with context derived addresses.

摘要: A test page produced by ink pens for calibrating drop weights for at least a first and a second printheads, comprising: a page with an area for color swatches; a plurality of color swatches disposed in the area; and a predetermined substantially uniform color background disposed in said area between and around said plurality of color swatches. In a system embodiment of the present invention, a sensor may be used for sensing spectral data for each color swatch in a plurality of color swatches; and a component may be provided for comparing the sensed spectral data for each color swatch in a plurality of the color swatches to spectral data for the background color and selecting one of the plurality of color swatches which has spectral data which is closest to the background color for use in adjusting ink volume for at least one of the ink pens.

摘要: A peripheral unit converts an input data flow to page-arranged outputs and includes a random access memory capacity that is insufficient in size to accommodate an entire page of raster data. The peripheral unit also includes a processor and a control memory that holds a plurality of data compression procedures, each procedure exhibiting a different performance characteristic. The peripheral unit performs a method for compressing portions of the input data flow that includes the steps of: allocating the random access memory to portions of the input data flow; determining when an insufficient amount of random access memory is available for such allocation; employing a first data compression procedure on the input data flow portions to produce a compressed data portion; testing the compressed data portion to determine if a level of compression has been achieved that exceeds a threshold and, if not, employing succeeding data compression procedures and repeating the test for each procedure against a threshold, whereby the compression procedure that first enables a threshold level of compression to be achieved is the compression procedure employed to compress the data flow portion. Improved compression methods and techniques for handling input data flows with both integral and independent image descriptors are also described.

摘要: A page printer is described which divides each page of text, graphics, etc. into lateral page strips, each having an allocated page strip rasterization time (PSRT) based upon the printer's page print time. A method is described for assuring that a print mechanism in the printer has a strip of rasterized data waiting to be printed when a previous strip has been printed. The method comprises the steps of: determining a total rasterization execution time (RET) for all display commands in each strip; determining for a selected strip, if its RET exceeds the sum of PSRT and at least a prior strips idle strip rasterization time (ISRT), where ISRT equals PSRT less RET for the prior strip; prerasterizing the selected strip if its RET exceeds the aforestated sum and arranging it in a first queue; arranging the selected strip in a second queue if its RET does not exceed the aforestated sum; and transferring strips from the queues to a print mechanism and rasterizing strips from the second queue in the process of such transfer.
