摘要: A defibrillator capable of delivering a damped biphasic truncated (DBT) defibrillation pulse is provided. An energy storage circuit is coupled across a high voltage switch such as an H-bridge for delivering a defibrillation pulse to the patient through a pair of electrodes. A controller operates to control the entire defibrillation process and detects shockable rhythms from the patient via an ECG front end. The energy storage circuit consists of an energy storage capacitor, a series inductor, a shunt diode, and optionally a resistor in series with the inductor. The controller measures as the patient dependent parameter the time interval between the initial delivery of the defibrillation pulse and the occurrence of the peak current or voltage to determine the first and second phases of the defibrillation pulse to provide for compensation for patient impedance. Other types of patient dependent parameters, measured either before or during delivery of the DBT defibrillation pulse, could be alternatively employed to achieve the impedance compensation.

摘要: This invention is a battery monitor and battery capacity indicator that uses a sense cell in addition to the main battery to determine main battery remaining capacity and depletion condition. A parameter of the sense cell is related to the main battery capacity so that the main battery will have a minimum capacity remaining when the sense cell parameter reaches a particular value or crosses a particular threshold. In a preferred embodiment, the sense cell is a battery which is identical and of the same manufacturing lot as the battery cell or cells in the main battery pack. A current is drawn from the sense cell that is larger than the current being drawn from the main battery. When the sense cell is fully depleted, the main battery will have a remaining capacity whose magnitude depends on the relationship between the main battery current and the sense cell current.

摘要: A method for operating an automatic external defibrillator (AED) prompts an operator about proper operation of the automatic external defibrillator and placement of the electrodes to ensure rapid and proper operation. Depending upon a state of a pad storage compartment, upon activation the AED issues an initial prompt, pauses after the initial prompt and then issues a second prompt. The AED also determines whether the pads have been removed from a liner and if so, issues a pad application prompt. The AED next determines whether both pads have been placed and if so, analyzes an impedance signal and if the impedance signal is erratic, issues a pad correction prompt. The AED also issues the pad correction prompt if the pads are removed from the liner but never go on the patient.

摘要: A biomedical electrode patch having improved resistance to capacitive coupling to extraneous electric fields. The patch includes a conductive shield and a contact portion formed on an upper surface thereof. The contact portion extends through the film layer and contacts an electrode formed of a material suitable for conducting electrical signals from a patient. Conductive traces formed on the lower surface of the tab extend to contact pads. A nonconductive layer is printed over the traces and can have a shield formed thereon.
