摘要: The invention relates to controlling the participation and performance management of a distributed set of resources in a grid environment. The control is achieved by forecasting the behavior of a group of shared resources, their availability and quality of their performance in the presence of external policies governing their usage, and deciding the suitability of their participation in a grid computation. The system also provides services to grid clients with certain minimum levels of service guarantees using resources with uncertainties in their service potentials.

摘要: A checkpoint of a process is taken in order to provide a consistent state of the process in the event the process is to be restarted. When the process is restarted, the process is placed in the state it was in when the checkpoint was taken. However, there are times when certain information has changed since the last checkpoint and it should not be restored. For example, if a process is restarted on a computing unit different from the one in which the checkpoint is taken, then various attributes associated with external data referenced by the process (e.g., an address to an external function/variable) might be different than at the time of the checkpoint. Similarly, even on the same computing unit, if the functions and/or variables are reloaded, the attributes may be different. Since these new attribute values are needed for the restarted process, they should not be restored. In order to prevent restoration of the attributes, only part of the Data Section is restored. The portion of the Data Section including the attributes remains intact.

摘要: Techniques for selectively off-loading workload across multiple data centers are disclosed. For example, a technique for processing a user request in accordance with a multiple data center environment comprises the following steps/operations. A user request is obtained at a first data center. The user request is classified based on one or more classification criterion. At least a portion of a workload associated with the classified user request is off-loaded to at least a second data center to be processed, wherein the off-loading step/operation is at least based on one or more administrative policies associated with at least one of the first data center and the second data center. The workload is processed such that the user request is at least substantially satisfied in accordance with a service level agreement for the requesting user.

摘要: This invention provides systems, apparatus and methods for object management, employing agents for all personal computer objects. Personal objects survive in direct proportion to the degree to which they possess attributes that give them a competitive advantage in the use of the computing systems storage and name spaces. It employs an important competitive attribute of future utility. Since it is not always possible to accurately predict future utility, assessment of competitive advantage is based on secondary attributes that can be computed and that correlate with future utility, to a greater or lesser degree. It uses a ‘coordinating mechanic’ that monitors and controls relationships between personal objects and their agents. The term “object management” applies to computer systems, but is not necessarily limited to computer entities
