    摘要： A pipeline caliper pig is disclosed which can be passed through a pipeline to provide indications of or a record of deviations of the inner pipeline wall from a normal configuration as such deviations may occur along the pipeline. The pig employs a resiliently outwardly biased circumferential portion which slides along the inner wall of the pipeline so that segments of such portion move laterally in conformity with such a deviation and caliper means are provided which sense these lateral movements by a plurality of sensors so that substantially full-circle coverage of the inner pipeline wall is afforded with a limited number of sensors. Also, these sensors are isolated from the pipeline wall by the circumferential portion of the pig and are not subjected to the stresses and wear involved in maintaining sliding contact with the pipeline wall. The arrangement can be such that only the net change in pipe diameter is indicated.

    摘要： A pipeline pig is provided with a wheel mounted thereon to roll along the inner wall of the pipeline. A magnet is carried by the wheel for movement past a magnetic flux responsive switch carried by the wheel mounting mechanism so that as the wheel revolves, the magnet moves past the switch to actuate it and thereby provide a signal proportioned to the distance moved by the pig without any appreciable drag or torsional load on the wheel so as to cause it to tend to skid without rotation along the pipeline.

The element is inserted into a pipe, relaxed and unexpanded, through an opening of uniform diameter. This allows pipe tapping equipment for cutting a side opening of one diameter to be used with a range of pipe sizes, which results in a considerable reduction in the equipment required to handle plugging operations in a variety of pipe diameters.

    摘要： The high temperature pipe plugger disclosed uses a backup plate for the sealing element on the plugging member that provides substantially complete support for the sealing element against the differential pressure imposed on the element by the hot fluid in the pipe. The backup plate may either deform the pipe to match its outside diameter or the pipe may deform the plate to match its inside diameter depending on the material from which the plate is made and the shape of the pipe. A method of isolating a leak in a superheated steam line is also disclosed. The method locates the pipe plugs far enough away from the bypass openings for the steam adjacent the plug, being removed from the flowing stream, to lose its superheat quickly and thereby reduce the temperature at which the sealing element of the plugging member must operate while the line is being repaired.

    摘要： The tapping apparatus disclosed has a feed screw for moving a boring bar axially upon rotation of the boring bar relative to the feed screw. A drive sleeve rotates the boring bar to provide such relative rotation and to rotate a cutter attached to the boring bar to cause the cutter to cut a hole in a pressure vessel. Both the feed screw and the drive sleeve are rotated independently by fluid motors. The pressure of the fluid to each motor is maintained constant, after the initial relative rotation between the boring bar and the feed screw is established, to permit the feed rate of the cutter, i.e., the speed at which the boring bar is moved axially by the feed screw, to adjust itself automatically to decrease as the cutting load increases and increase as the cutting load decreases thereby automatically adjusting the feed rate to the cutting load on the cutter.
