The sensed characteristic includes variations in reluctance of the motor. A controller may sense changes on load on the motor as a result of interaction between a working element such as a saw blade or drill bit and the work piece. The controlled operation may include variation in speed or torque or both, or may include stopping the motor. Emergency conditions may be sensed by changes in reluctance.

The deep-hole drilling apparatus provided for this purpose comprises: a tool (12) that is rotationally driven to drill a deep hole (Wa) in a work (W); an acceleration meter (19) that detects vibration of the tool (12) as the acceleration during deep hole processing; a monitoring apparatus (20) which performs frequency analysis on the acceleration detected by the acceleration meter (19) and which determines that a tool mark is produced in the deep hole (Wa) when the overall value of the whirling frequency and the bending natural frequency within a frequency range not including the torsional natural frequency on torsional vibration, constantly produced during the deep hole processing, exceeds a predetermined threshold (α); and an NC apparatus (18) that controls both revolution and feeding speed of the tool (12) on the basis of the determination made by the monitoring apparatus (20).

    摘要: The orientation of a machine 2 relative to a work-piece 10 is manually controlled by means of an alignment device 4. The device 4 includes a light source 24 rigidly attached to a foot 12 that is resiliently movably attached to the main body 18 of the device. The body 18 of the device 4 houses a light detector 26 for detecting a light beam from the light source 24, the position of the region on the detector 26 illuminated by the beam depending on the orientation of the machine 2 relative to the work-piece 10. The operator is provided with feedback on whether the machine 2 is correctly aligned with a target orientation (usually perpendicular to the surface) and concerning the direction of corrective movement required, if any.
