Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of using recycled rubber including recycled rubber from tires to absorb hydrocarbons. The method is particularly applicable to absorbing waste or contaminating hydrocarbons from solid surfaces or particles where hydrocarbons may have been spilt or otherwise have contaminated the surfaces. The methods may also be used for removing spilt hydrocarbons from a liquid such as crude oil spills at sea.

Abstract: A data capture system includes a data collection terminal and a wireless communications module comprising a transceiver arranged to transmit and receive radio frequency signals to and from a remote station in the data capture system. At least one flat antenna embedded within the communications module, and a pair of flat antennas may be included. A connector is arranged to removably couple the communications module with the data collection terminal and to transmit signals. A microprocessor is coupled with the connector and is arranged to standardize the logic levels and the format of the signals transmitted over the connector such that the data collection terminal may be engaged by the communications module through the connector without adjustment of the communications module.

Abstract: A filter apparatus of the present invention includes a filter housing having an inlet and an outlet and a filter device locatable therebetween. The filter device includes a filter medium, an electrically conductive screen or mesh, and a conductor for supplying high voltage power. The conductor abuts the filter medium such that when the conductor is subject to a high voltage, the filter medium is polarized and nothing, apart from air or a support or retention material of dielectric material, is on a side of the filter medium immediately opposite to the conductor and no other charge applying device is located upstream of the conductor.

The carrier includes first and second planar members.
