    摘要: An implantable portal includes a septum that has embedded therein an indicia adapted to identify at least one characteristic of the portal. The indicia may be formed as an impression at a base layer of the septum, and is filled with a radiopaque material. The septum base layer is covered by liquid silicone, which bonds with the septum base layer when solidified, so that an integral one-piece septum, with the identifier indicia embedded therein, is effected. The indicia embedded septum is fitted to the reservoir housing of the portal for providing identification information for that portal. The septum embedded indicia is viewable visually and also by x-ray or computer tomography imaging.

    摘要: A collapsible animal container 10 having a lightweight construction is disclosed. The animal container 10 is constructed of a flexible housing 12 suspended by rigid panels 14 separated by struts 16. The housing 12 includes a top wall, bottom wall, a pair of end walls and a pair of side walls. One or more struts 16 are provided and are biased between the rigid panels 14 to maintain the animal container 10 in an open and usable configuration. When removed, the struts 16 may be stored in pockets 20 formed in the side walls to simplify transport. A strap 36 and/or leash may also be provided to bundle the rigid panels 14 together when not in use or for transport. A handle 18 may also be incorporated into the animal container 10 or strap 36, particularly, to further simplify transport.

    摘要: A rubber laminated bearing-seal, consisting of multiple flat or curved alternate laminations of metal and rubber bonded together and having an aperture, is seated in an apertured receptacle in the wall of a pressure vessel and supports a shaft that penetrates the apertures, extending from one side of the wall through to the other side. Shear strains in the rubber laminations permit the shaft to carry limited movements through the wall while the laminations seal against any flow of the liquid or gaseous medium on one side toward the other side and withstand the resulting thrust caused by large pressure differences. The torque reaction of this bearing-seal is essentially proportional to rotation angle. A potential use is in the intense hydrostatic pressure environment of undersea applications at great depths, carrying limited motion through the hull of a submersible craft.

    摘要: A weight estimation apparatus for the passenger seat of a motor vehicle, in which a single bladder substantially encompassing the seat bottom is evacuated and then inflated with a known volume of air. The average pressure in the bladder is determined to estimate the passenger weight. According to a first embodiment, the apparatus continues to monitor the average pressure, and the process is re-initiated if the average pressure changes by at least a predetermined percentage. According to a second embodiment, a bleed valve allows the pressure in the bladder to slowly escape, and the apparatus monitors the rate of change in pressure as a corresponding indication of passenger weight; in this embodiment, the process of evacuating and inflating is re-initiated if the monitored change in pressure does not correspond with the estimated weight. The sides of the bladder may be pleated to permit the bladder to expand under the weight of an occupant without stretching the bladder, and thereby affecting the average pressure. A temperature sensor may be disposed in proximity to the bladder provides a temperature signal for compensating the weight estimation for temperature variations. Also, the pressure sensor may be configured to sense the gage pressure--that is, the differential pressure between the bladder pressure and atmospheric pressure; alternatively, the pressure sensor may be configured to detect absolute pressure, and a second absolute pressure sensor responsive to atmospheric pressure may be used to compensate for changes in atmospheric pressure.

    摘要: This invention relates to a wide aperture radio frequency data acquisition system which collects coherent samples from multiple points in a defined plane at the surface of the ground. The information collected can be processed with suitable algorithms to extract the bearing, frequency, and power spectra of the arriving radio frequency wavefront.This system consists of an antenna system; a multi-channel receiver system incorporating mixers, filters, amplifiers, analog to digital converters, digital down converters; a digital signal processor; and a computer. The electrically short, active antennas with frequency independent response are connected to the multiple channel receiving system, one channel per antenna receiving the signal. The receiver uses two frequency conversion oscillators for coarse but accurate frequency synthesis to convert the received signal's frequency. Then, the signal is converted to a digital signal. This early conversion to a digital signal allows total intermediate frequency processing in digital mode with inherently matched filters and demodulators. The receiver is designed with low cost components to produce a very large and linear dynamic range. The digital down converter provides accurate fine tuning, bandpass filters the signal, reduces the data rate, and formats the output for extraction of amplitude and phase information from the signal.The processing algorithm analyzes the data to determine arriving field strength, direction of arrival, elevation of arrival, frequency and power spectra of the signal. By choice of processing algorithm, the output data can be processed for either very fast information on brief signals, or thorough examination of data for fine frequency discrimination to less than one Hertz resolution.
