    摘要: A transition metal oxide insulator composition having a tuned band gap includes a transition metal oxide having a perovskite or a perovskite-like crystalline structure. The transition metal oxide includes at least one first element selected from the group of Bi, Ca, Ba, Sr, Li, Na, Mg, K, Pb, and Pr; and at least one second element selected from the group of Ti, Al, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, and Pt. At least one correlated insulator is integrated into the crystalline structure, including REMO3, wherein RE is at least one Rare Earth element, and wherein M is at least one element selected from the group of Co, V, Cr, Ni, Mn, and Fe. The composition is characterized by a band gap of less than 4.5 eV.

    摘要: A shift register is provided in which leakage of charges from a voltage at a set node is prevented to stabilize an output from a stage. The shift register includes stages for sequentially outputting scan pulses. An nth one of the stages includes a node controller for controlling voltages at nodes, and an output unit for outputting any one of a corresponding one of the scan pulses and a first discharging voltage according to the voltages at the nodes. The nodes include set and reset nodes. The node controller of the nth stage includes a first switching device controlled by a voltage supplied to the reset node for supplying a second discharging voltage to the set node, and an inverter circuit controlled by a voltage supplied to the set node for supplying any one of a charging voltage and a third discharging voltage to the reset node.

    摘要: Provided are an aberration-compensating liquid crystal device, a method of manufacturing the same, an optical pickup including the liquid crystal device, and an optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus employing the optical pickup. The method of manufacturing an aberration-compensating liquid crystal device comprises: positioning a gray scale mask having an absorption rate distribution corresponding to that of aberrations to be corrected on a liquid crystal cell containing a mixture of liquid crystals and monomers injected between a pair of transparent substrates; and irradiating the liquid crystal cell on which the gray scale mask has been positioned with UV light so that the monomers undergo photopolymerization into polymer and phase separation into a polymer-existing region and a liquid crystal-existing region, thereby forming a liquid crystal layer having a phase difference distribution corresponding to that of aberrations to be corrected.

    摘要: An optical pickup and an optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus adopting the same are provided. The optical pickup includes an optical unit, first and second objective lenses, and an optical path switching unit. The optical unit illuminates light onto an information storage medium and receives light reflected from the information storage medium to detect an information signal and/or an error signal. The first and the second objective lenses focus incident light to form a light spot on an information storage surface of the information storage medium. The optical path switching unit selectively directs the light incident from the optical unit to one of the first and second objective lenses. In the optical pickup, since the light quantity directed to a plurality of objective lenses may be maximized, optical efficiency is increased and thus high-speed operation may be attained.
