    摘要: A percutaneous cable is attached to a mechanical cardiac pump and is passed through the skin. Sutures can be used to stabilize the cable against movement to prevent disturbing tissue surrounding cable and thereby reduce the incidence of infection. A funnel-shaped tubular device can be used where the cable exits the skin to allow the cable to flex below or near the skin surface as may be desired to accommodate physical activity of a patient. An anchor can be attached to the cable and implanted below the skin surface to stabilize the cable against movement. The anchor can include any one or a combination of a flat mesh material, a bundle of ultrafine filaments, and a barbed filament.

This sheet is stretchable along two axes that lie in the plane of the sheet and that are at an angle to one another. The sheet may be more easily stretched along one of these axes than along the other axis. Along each axis the amount of force required to produce initial increments of stretch may be less than the amount of force required to produce subsequent increments of stretch (i.e., increments of stretch beyond the initial increments).

    摘要: Improved dip coating methods and mandrels for forming polymer leaflets and valve prostheses generally involve one or more features on the mandrel that facilitate the processing. The mandrel has a top surface and an outer surface comprising a plurality of ridges and contoured surfaces extending to the ridges. An edge on the mandrel separates the top surface and the contoured surfaces, with the mandrel edge corresponding to the free edge of the leaflet. In preferred embodiments, the edge separating the top surface from the contoured surfaces is sharp. The polymer formed on the top surface can be efficiently separated from the remaining portions of the polymer structure to form the free edges of the leaflets.

    摘要: A single piece intraocular lens folder that has a generally planar, open frame in the shape of a rounded "A" with a rimmed, open head at the top of the "A". The base of the "A" forms a pairs of opposing legs or handles that join to form a hinge at the intersection where the handles attach to the head. The hinge allows the handle to be squeezed together and spring apart when released. Squeezing the handles together causes the sides of the head to spread apart, thereby stretching the top edge of the head rim and pulling the top edge downward toward the hinge. The open head contains a pair of support jaws and a pair of serpentine folding jaws. The location of the serpentine jaws is such that when the top edge of the head rim moves toward the hinge, the serpentine jaws are squeezed together, causing the IOL to be folded in half. The serpentine shape of the folding jaws allow the haptics to pivot downward, thereby permitting the IOL to be folded along a plurality of axes.

If the hydrogel (and/or any included anticoagulant) might react with a packaging solution in which the valve is stored after inclusion of the hydrogel (and any anticoagulant), the hydrogel (and any anticoagulant) may be included in a protective but deliberately frangible pouch in the sewing cuff. After the valve is out of the packaging solution, the pouch can be broken to render the hydrogel (and any coagulant) effective following implantation of the valve in a patient.

    摘要: Valved prostheses include a support structure and a plurality of flexible polymer leaflets connected to the support structure, in which the leaflets have an improved structural design. The support structure has a plurality of commissure supports and scallops between the commissure supports. Generally, the flexible polymer leaflets project away from the support structure at an attachment edge where the leaflets connect to the support structure. In particular embodiments, the leaflets at the attachment edge are at an angle from about 5 degrees to about 85 degrees relative to a plane normal to the valve axis. In some embodiments, the flexible polymer leaflets having a coaptation depth from about 0.3 times the valve radius to about 0.8 times the valve radius. In further embodiments, the flexible polymer leaflets form a valve with a valve height from about one times the valve radius to about 2 times the valve radius and have leaflet lengths at least about 1 millimeter greater than the valve radius.
