    摘要: An information editing apparatus is provided which enables the user to clearly recognize the contents of recorded information which includes image information and is recorded on a recording medium. The information editing apparatus includes a first selecting device 14 for selecting a thumbnail image from images corresponding to the image information, the thumbnail image showing the contents of the recorded information recorded on a recording medium 1, a second selecting device 14 for selecting the thumbnail image from images other than the images corresponding to the image information in the recorded information, and a recording device 8 for recording first position information and second position information on the recording medium 1. The first position information indicates on the recording medium 1 the recording position of image information corresponding to the image selected by the first selecting device 14. The second position information indicates on the recording medium 1 the recording position of image information corresponding to the image selected by the second selecting device 14.

    摘要: A recording apparatus includes an MPEG encoder, and compressed data from the MPEG encoder and data of an index (a transfer rate and a necessary memory capacity for the transfer rate, or a transfer rate and a rate difference characteristic) are multiplexed and recorded on an optical disc. In a reproducing apparatus, a bit stream read from the optical disc is converted into variable bit rate data by a CD decoder and a CD-ROM decoder. The variable bit rate data is once stored in a system buffer, and then, supplied to an MPEG decoder from the system buffer. The index is extracted by a microcomputer which determines whether or not it is possible to reproduce the optical disc through comparison of the necessary memory capacity and a capacity of the system buffer. If not reproduced, the optical disc is ejected. In a case of simple reproduction, data stored in an output buffer is repeatedly outputted during a time that an operation of the MPEG decoder is suspended.

    摘要: An object of the present invention is to suppress fragmentation occurring due to repeated storing and deleting small capacity file data, while effectively storing large capacity real time file data. To achieve this object, according to the present invention, a block relying on a physical storage area, and a continuous plurality of the blocks, constitute a unit. The unit is set at a capacity at which real time processing is guaranteed. Image data or other such real time file data is stored with in units. Further, in a case of data processed in non-real time, the data is stored in blocks. A unit attribute table for managing the unit is arranged, and based on this unit attribute table, a determination is made as to whether or not the unit can be used at the time of storage.
