Abstract: A system for measuring brake data from a braking assembly of a vehicle. The braking assembly includes a floating portion that moves relative to brake pad wear. The system includes a brake sensor for each wheel. The brake sensors include a fixed sensing element and a target portion attached for movement with the floating portion. The sensing element generates a signal indicating a position of the target portion. The signal is used to determine brake pad thickness. The brake sensor also transmits the signal over a wireless vehicle area network for receipt and processing by a wireless hub in the vehicle area network. The vehicle area network can generate and transmit an alert and/or instructions for an autonomous vehicle based on the signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improved vehicle-to-vehicle communications are provided. A system can obtain sensor data depicting its surrounding environment and input the sensor data (or processed sensor data) to a machine-learned model to perceive its surrounding environment based on its location within the environment. The machine-learned model can generate an intermediate environmental representation that encodes features within the surrounding environment. The system can receive a number of different intermediate environmental representations and corresponding locations from various other systems, aggregate the representations based on the corresponding locations, and perceive its surrounding environment based on the aggregated representations. The system can determine relative poses between the each of the systems and an absolute pose for each system based on the representations. Each representation can be aggregated based on the relative or absolute poses of each system and weighted according to an estimated accuracy of the location corresponding to the representation.

Abstract: Systems and methods for updating navigational maps based using at least one sensor are provided. In one aspect, a control system for an autonomous vehicle, includes a processor and a computer-readable memory configured to cause the processor to: receive output from at least one sensor located on the autonomous vehicle indicative of a driving environment of the autonomous vehicle, retrieve a navigational map used for driving the autonomous vehicle, and detect one or more inconsistencies between the output of the at least one sensor and the navigational map. The computer-readable memory is further configured to cause the processor to: in response to detecting the one or more inconsistencies, trigger mapping of the driving environment based on the output of the at least one sensor, update the navigational map based on the mapped driving environment, and drive the autonomous vehicle using the updated navigational map.

Abstract: Devices, methods, and a computer program for releasing transportation vehicle components and a vehicle-to-vehicle communication module. The device for releasing a vehicle component of a transportation vehicle includes at least one interface for communication with further vehicle components of the transportation vehicle and a control module for controlling the at least one interface to receive messages from the further vehicle components of the transportation vehicle and to verify the identity of the further vehicle components based on the received messages and the stored identification data of the further vehicle components. The messages on which the verification of the identity of the further vehicle components is based are messages used in regular operation of the vehicle component. The control module also releases the vehicle component in response to the identity of the further transportation vehicle components being consistent with the stored identification data of the further vehicle components.

Abstract: A method and system for assisting a vehicle when traveling within an area experiencing a meteorological event capable of potentially flooding a roadway is disclosed. The assistance may include determining a water level over top of the roadway, determining a plurality of surface water related operating parameters for the vehicle, and comparing the water level to the surface water related operating parameters to generate a flooded roadway assessment. The flooded roadway assessment may be used for determining the roadway to be in one of a passable state and an impassable state for the vehicle. Based thereon, a flooded roadway command may be generated for correspondingly controlling one or more systems onboard the vehicle.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method to provide collaboration between a group of vehicles. The method includes linking two or more vehicles into a group, wherein each vehicle is partially automated, includes a plurality of sensors, and are performing a common task. The method further includes generating, for each vehicle, a 360 degree view of the vehicle with data from the plurality of sensors. The method includes aggregating the 360 degree view for each vehicle into a group view, that includes all the grouped vehicles. The method includes displaying the group view on an augmented reality (AR) device a, where the group view includes a relative location for each vehicle in the group. The method includes applying a set of rules to the group of vehicles, wherein the rules provide instructions to each vehicle how to operate within the group, where the set of rules is configured to complete the task.

Abstract: Provided herein is a system for use in determining right-of-way. The system includes a host vehicle at or approaching an intersection, and the host vehicle includes a transceiver configured for vehicle-to-vehicle communication and a control unit. The control unit is configured to receive a local map of an area surrounding the intersection; receive, via the transceiver, a first signal from at least one client vehicle, wherein the first signal indicates the at least one client vehicle is at or approaching the intersection; determine, based upon a set of rules, that the host vehicle is an arbitrator, wherein the arbitrator assigns a priority value for right-of-way to each vehicle at or approaching the intersection; and transmit, via the transceiver, a second signal to the at least one client vehicle, wherein the second signal includes the assigned priority values for each vehicle at or approaching the intersection.

The instructions cause the communication device to generate a detection signal indicative of whether the communication device is located within a first vehicle, generate a vehicle mode indication signal indicative of the communication device being located in the first vehicle based on the detection signal, transmit a first vehicle mode signal based on the vehicle mode indication signal, receive a second vehicle mode signal indicative of a device being located in a second vehicle, receive a subsequent signal representing the second vehicle, and perform a function based on the second vehicle mode signal and subsequent signal representing the second vehicle.
