To provide a process for producing a hydroxyalkyltriethylenediamine or hydroxytriethylenediamine simply and in a small number of steps without requiring multi-stage reaction steps; a novel catalyst composition whereby a polyurethane product can be obtained with good productivity and good moldability without bringing about odor problems or environmental problems; and a process for producing a polyurethane resin using the catalyst composition.For example, a hydroxyalkyltriethylenediamine or hydroxytriethylenediamine is produced by subjecting a mono-substituted dihydroxyalkylpiperazine and/or a di-substituted hydroxyalkylpiperazine to an intramolecular dehydration condensation reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst.Further, for example, a polyurethane resin is produced by using a catalyst composition which comprises a hydroxyalkyltriethylenediamine or hydroxytriethylenediamine (A), and an amine compound (B) having, in its molecule, one or more substituents selected from the group consisting of a hydroxy group, a primary amino group and a secondary amino group, or a tertiary amine compound (C) having a value of [blowing reaction rate constant/gelling reaction rate constant] of at least 0.5.

A process is provided for producing a polyurethane foam having a high-density skin layer by reacting a polyol with a polyisocyanate in a short time. The reaction is allowed to proceed in the presence of a blowing agent, a catalyst, and optionally an additive, the blowing agent being composed only of water, and the catalyst being an amine represented by formula (I) below and/or an organic acid salt thereof: ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are, independently, an alkyl group of 1 to 12 carbons, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, and/or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be linked to form a cycloalkyl or heterocyclic ring together with the adjacent nitrogen atom; and R.sub.5 is hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1 to 12 carbons, a phenyl group, or a cycloalkyl group. This process does not use halogenated hydrocarbons which cause ozone layer destruction.

An amine catalyst for producing polyurethane comprising a compound of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein n is an integer from 0 to 3, and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are each independently a C.sub.1-3 alkyl group. The amine catalyst has a secondary hydroxyl group in the molecule and is non-bleeding in the polyurethane resin and excellent in moldability. A process for producing a polyurethane foam by reacting a polyol with a polyisocyanate in the presence of the amine catalyst defined above and a foaming agent are also disclosed.

Disclosed is a catalyst composition for polyurethane resin production which contains (A) triethylenediamine, (B) a specific polyisocyanurating catalyst and/or (C) a specific highly temperature-sensitive catalyst. By using this catalyst composition, a polyurethane resin can be molded with good curability, while suppressing initial reactivity. Consequently, a polyurethane resin having excellent moldability and fluidity can be produced with high productivity by using the catalyst composition. The thus-obtained polyurethane resin is suitably applicable to shoe soles. The component (B) is selected from the group consisting of alkali metal salts of carboxylic acids, quaternary ammonium compounds expressed as R1R2R3R4N+,X−, N,N,N′-trimethylaminoethylethanolamine, and 2,4,6-tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol, while the component (C) is selected from the group consisting of triazole salts and benzotriazole salts of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undecene-7 or 1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]nonene-5. The mixing ratio of the component (B) and/or the component (C) to the component (A) is from 2% by weight to 60% by weight.

An object of the present invention is to provide a catalyst for producing a rigid polyurethane foam and an isocyanurate-modified rigid polyurethane foam excellent in storage stability in the case that water is contained as a blowing agent, and a raw material-blended composition using the same. In the present invention, a catalyst composition comprising the following amine compounds of (A) and (B) and/or (C) is used and further, a raw material-blended composition further containing a polyol component and water is used. A fine-cell rigid polyurethane foam is prepared by reacting a polyol having a blowing agent such as water incorporated therein with a polyisocyanate in the presence of an amine catalyst having a retarding effect. The amine catalyst is comprised of (a) 30 to 50 parts by weight of triethylene diamine, (b) 30 to 50 parts by weight of bis(dimethylaminoethyl)ether and/or N,N',N",N"-pentamethyldiethylene triamine, (c) up to 40 parts by weight of tetramethylhexamethylene diamine and/or trimethylaminoethylpiperazine, and (d) formic acid in an amount of 0.2 to 1.5 moles per mole of triethylene diamine.
