Abstract: A medical article and methods of using same. The medical article can include a machine direction (MD) and a cross-machine direction (CMD); a support layer; and a viscoelastic layer. The viscoelastic layer can be coupled to the support layer, and the viscoelastic layer can be discontinuous in the MD and/or the CMD. The viscoelastic layer can recover at least 70% of its deformation after 48 hours at room temperature after being strained to 50% elongation, such that the medical article has a first tensile stiffness T1 at a first strain rate S1, and a second tensile stiffness T1 at a second strain rate S1. The ratio of S1/S2 can be at least 100, and the ratio of T1/T2 can be at least 1.5. The method can include wrapping the medical article around a body part; applying the first strain rate S1; and applying the second strain rate S2.

Abstract: A compression device for applying compression to a body part of a user. The compression device has a sleeve with two lateral side regions and a central region in-between. The central region of the sleeve comprises a main material having elasticity in at least a transverse direction. A maximum elongation in the transverse direction is from 5% up to and including 30% under a load of 10 N per cm width and a difference quotient of tension in the transverse direction from 20% elongation to 25% elongation equal to or greater that 0.6 N per cm width per percent elongation. The device further includes a releasable closure system configured and arranged relative to the sleeve, such that, in use, upon closure of the closure system the sleeve is restrained and tightened about the body part of the user.

Abstract: Disclosed is a monitoring system for determining the efficacy of at least one compression device for use in compression therapy. The monitoring system comprises at least one pressure sensor for measuring a pressure exerted onto a body part of a user by the compression device, at least one attitude sensor for acquiring at least one attitude information on at least one of a position, an orientation and a movement of the user, at least one measuring device having at least one evaluation unit. The measuring device is adapted to communicate with the pressure sensor and the attitude sensor. The evaluation unit is adapted to receive at least one attitude information acquired by the attitude sensor. The evaluation unit is adapted to automatically combine the pressure value and the attitude information in order to determine at least one key figure K indicating the efficacy of the compression device taking into account the attitude information.

Abstract: Medical dressings including stiffening systems fixedly attached to backing layers are described herein along with methods of using the medical dressings. The stiffening system is fixedly secured to the backing to limit flexing and stretching of the backing layer. Typically, the medical dressing and stiffening system is applied over a medical device that is secured to skin. The stiffening system covers some of the medical device and also extends beyond the medical device. The stiffening system stabilizes the medical device over the skin.

Abstract: A compression device for applying compression to a body part of a user. The compression device comprises a sleeve for substantially covering a portion of the body part of a user. The sleeve has an upper edge, a lower edge and an opening extending from its upper edge to its lower edge, said opening having two side edges. The first side edge is provided with one half of a zipper and the second side edge is provided with a complementary half of said zipper. The sleeve includes at least one expandable gusset provided with a releasable closure system extending along the length of said gusset, said gusset and releasable closure system being configured and arranged, such that when said releasable closure system is closed said gusset is prevented from expansion and when said releasable closure system is opened said gusset is allowed to expand.

Abstract: Provided are reactive compositions for making a polyurethane-based rain-erosion protective coating for rotor blades, the reactive composition comprising an isocyanate-reactive component and an isocyanate-functional component and wherein the isocyanate-reactive component comprises a first component i) being a short chain hydroxyl-functional compound having two terminal (α-ω) hydroxyl groups, a molecular weight of less than 250 g/mole and containing at least 2 carbon atoms and a second component ii) comprising a high molecular weight hydroxyl-functional compound having two terminal (α-ω) hydroxyl groups and a molecular weight of at least 250 g/mol and comprising one or more units selected from oxyalkylene units and polyoxyalkylene units and wherein the isocyanate-functional component is an isocyanate prepolymer of the general formula NCO—Z—NCO, wherein Z is a linking group comprising at least two urethane (—NH—CO—O—) units and additionally one or more units selected from alkylenes, oxyalkylenes, polyoxyalkylenes, alkylene esters, oxyalkylene esters, polyoxyalkylene esters and combinations thereof. Also provided are protective coatings obtained from the reactive compositions and methods of applying the coatings to articles.
