Abstract: A system for facilitating the effective administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by providing feedback regarding release velocity, which is the velocity of the chest while resiliently expanding during the upstroke of a CPR compression cycle. The feedback is provided, indicating whether the CPR provider has substantially released the chest, through a control systems which analyzes sensor input corresponding to chest displacement to determine chest compression depth and release velocity, compares the determined release velocity to a desired release velocity threshold. The desired release velocity is determined based on the depth of compression. The desired release velocity may be determined based on assumed or target compression depth, selected by a CPR provider and input into the control system, or the desired release velocity may be determined adaptively, based on the chest compression depth achieved during compressions and/or the rate of compressions, as determined by the control system.

Abstract: A mobility aid is provided. The mobility aid includes a mobile base movable along a mobile-base-movement plane, the mobile base having a plurality of wheels. The mobility aid also includes a seat pivotably coupled to the mobile base in a manner so as to be pivotable between a sitting disposition, in which the seat is oriented parallel to the mobile-base-movement plane, and a standing disposition, in which the seat is oriented perpendicular to the mobile-base-movement plane and a sitting surface of the seat is facing forward with respect to a forward-movement direction of the mobile base. The mobility aid also includes a balance-assist unit having a balance-assist-linkage mechanism coupled to the seat, and a body-support-module coupled to the balance-assist-linkage mechanism. Components of the balance-assist-linkage mechanism are jointed in a manner movable to allow movements of the body-support-module relative to the seat along a module-movement-plane parallel to the mobile-base-movement plane when the seat is in the standing disposition.

Abstract: A guide system is provided that uses a plurality of sensors to identify and determine a clear path for an ambulatory vision impaired person. The system includes one or more wheels that rotate to propel the system, a platform supported by the one or more wheels and housing a processor, a rigid harness with a haptic feedback grip that is positioned to be grasped by an operator, and one or more sensors configured to sense information about the environment. In operation, the processor analyzes information sensed by the sensors to identify object in the path of the guide system and sends messages to the operator to allow the operator to avoid the identified objects. The messages may be sent to the operator via the haptic feedback grip or audibly via a speaker or via a wireless connection to a haptic or audio device being worn by the operator.

Abstract: A system and method for aiding in the proper placement of ECG electrodes and other resuscitation parameters. The system includes motion sensors disposed on the ECG electrodes, and a defibrillator control system operable to interpret motion signals from the motions sensors to determine that an electrode is in motion, and thus being handled by rescuer setting up the system for use, and, based on this determination, prompt the rescuer to place the electrode in its intended location on the body of the patient. The control system may also be operable to determine relative motion and/orientation of the motion sensors and control resuscitation based on the relative motion and/orientation of the motion sensors.

Abstract: A system for monitoring performance of a resuscitation activity on a patient by an acute care provider is provided. The system includes: a first wearable sensor configured to sense movement of a first portion of an acute care provider's hand; a second wearable sensor configured to sense movement of a second portion of the acute care provider's hand; and a controller. The controller is configured to: receive and process signals representative of performance of a resuscitation activity from the first sensor and the second sensor; identify from the processed signals information indicative of at least one of a relative distance, a relative orientation, a change in relative distance and a change in relative orientation between the first sensor and the second sensor during performance of the resuscitation activity; and determine at least one resuscitation activity parameter based, at least in part, on the identified information.
