Abstract:
A rotating contact device is described. The rotating contact device can include a contact ring and a pair of legs extending from a lower ring surface of the contact ring. Along an upper ring surface of the contact ring can be disposed one or more raised contacts. The rotating contact device can also include an inside contact held within an inside of the contact ring. Application of a downwards force on the upper ring surface of the contact ring causes the pair of legs to deflect and the contact ring and the inside contact to rotate and translate. When mated with opposing contacts, this rotation can function to radially wipe the opposing contacts and the upper ring surface.
Abstract:
A unidirectional cable connector that can be operatively connected between a host device and accessory device in the ecosystem of products. The cable includes first and second plug connectors at opposite ends of a wire where the two plug connectors share a common pinout but the insertion plug of the second connector is shortened in length as compared to the insertion plug of the first connector. The shortened plug prevents the second connector from being fully inserted into the host device that includes a standard depth receptacle connector, and thus prevents the second connector from being operatively coupled to the host device. The shortened plug can, however, be operatively connected with an electronic device having a shortened receptacle connector according to embodiments of the disclosure.
Abstract:
Connector receptacles that may have a desired form factor to fit in a stylized device enclosure. These stylized connector receptacles and corresponding connector inserts may also be capable of high-speed performance. Examples may also provide circuitry for these connector inserts and connector receptacles that support these high speeds.
Abstract:
A dual orientation plug connector having a tab portion with first and second opposing exterior surfaces that are substantially identical, parallel and opposite each other. Each exterior surface may have a plurality of electrical contacts. A substantially u-shaped metallic band surrounds a portion of the periphery of the plug connector. A contact assembly having an upper contact carrier, intermediate conductive plate and lower contact carrier may be disposed within the tab portion of the plug connector. A circuit assembly may be disposed within a body portion of the plug connector and electrically coupled to the plurality of electrical contacts.

Abstract:
Connector inserts and connector receptacles that have a small form factor and where when a connector insert and connector receptacle are mated, the connector insert can rotate and articulate relative to an electronic device housing the connector receptacle. The connector receptacle can be connected to components in the electronic device through a flexible circuit board having an amount of slack or excess length to allow the connector receptacle and the connector insert to rotate relative to the connected components. A bearing supporting the connector receptacle can articulate about an axis to allow the connector receptacle and connector insert to articulate relative to the connected components. The bearing can further support a locking mechanism to lock the connector insert in place in the connector receptacle.

Abstract:
Connector receptacles, examples of which comprise a housing having a first plurality of slots in a top side and a second plurality of slots in a bottom side, a top row of contacts positioned in the first plurality of slots in the housing, a bottom row of contacts positioned in the second plurality of slots in the housing, a top shell portion over the top of the housing, the top shell portion comprising first and second electromagnetic contacts extending from a front of the top shell and passing through openings in the top side of the housing, and a bottom shell portion under the bottom of the housing, the bottom shell portion comprising third and fourth electromagnetic contacts extending from a front of the bottom shell and passing through openings in the bottom side of the housing.
Abstract:
A high-speed electrical connector employs a plurality of electrical contacts held together by a dielectric frame. The contacts are electrically coupled to a substrate within the connector. A gasket may be disposed between the dielectric frame and the substrate and configured to block the flow of an overmold material between the dielectric frame and the substrate such that voids are formed between the contacts. The dielectric frame and the overmold may be made from materials containing silica aerogel. The voids and the aerogel materials result in reduced parasitic capacitance between the contacts enabling higher data transfer speeds.
Abstract:
Embodiments can provide reversible or dual orientation USB plug connectors for mating with standard USB receptacle connectors, e.g., a standard Type A USB receptacle connector. Accordingly, the present invention may be compatible with any current or future electronic device that includes a standard USB receptacle connector. USB plug connectors according to the present invention can have a 180 degree symmetrical, double orientation design, which enables the plug connector to be inserted into a corresponding receptacle connector in either of two intuitive orientations. Thus, embodiments of the present invention may reduce the potential for USB connector damage and user frustration during the incorrect insertion of a USB plug connector into a corresponding USB receptacle connector of an electronic device. Reversible USB plug connectors according to the present invention may include a compliant member or structural support for distributing stress and increasing contact normal force at the tongue of the reversible USB plug connector.
