摘要: A method and apparatus for making formed glass structures. A glass frit containing material is deposited within a recessed pattern, hardened in the recessed pattern, and transferred to a substrate. The method and apparatus of the invention are particularly useful for forming barrier rib structures for use in plasma display panels.

摘要: A method of producing a glass-plastic, laminated, ophthalmic lens structure in a continuous operation. A thin, flexible, plastic adhesive layer is applied to a glass element to form a composite body that is inserted in a cylindrical gasket in such manner as to fit snugly and be sealed from the ambient. A monomeric formulation is flowed onto the adhesive layer and cured to form a laminated lens blank.

摘要: Fiber-reinforced, ceramic composite articles are manufactured by contacting inorganic reinforcing fibers with liquid dispersions containing powders of the ceramic matrix materials and an organic binder. The organic binder is a water-soluble polymer. The fibers coated with the ceramic powders are contacted with a cross-linking agent which reacts with binder to form a gel.

摘要: A method of applying a tough, abrasion-resistant, organic film to a back surface of a thin, glass body to form a glass-plastic composite, the method comprising preheating the film to a temperature at which residual solvent and moisture are removed from the film, preheating a presshead to a pressing temperature, pressing the film and the glass together, maintaining the glass-film assembly at a controlled temperature and pressure for a period of time to form a sealed composite body, and cooling the sealed body to solidify the glass-plastic composite.

摘要: An improved, laminated, ophthalmic lens structure, and method of producing the structure. The structure comprises two adjacent layers of dissimilar, organic plastic materials, either or both of which contain matter that tends to migrate. The improvement comprises a barrier layer that is intermediate the adjacent organic plastic layers; that is impermeable to migrating matter; and that is composed of a polyolefin polymeric material modified by the presence of acid or anhydride functional groups.

摘要: A mold for an organic polymer, ophthalmic lens element has separate upper and lower mold members with each mold member being composed of a thermoplastic polymer. The lower mold member has a central, bowl-shaped cavity with contours that conform to those of a lens to be molded therein, and has an annular rim surrounding the upper edge of the cavity. The upper member has a central portion with an under surface that corresponds in contour to that of the upper surface of the lens to be molded, and has an annular rim that surrounds the central portion and rests on the annular rim of the lower member when the two members are assembled.

摘要: Fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite articles are fabricated by combining inorganic reinforcing fibers with dispersions of powdered ceramic matrix materials in organic vehicles which are thermoplastic solids. The dispersions are solid at room temperature, and are melted and combined with the fibers as heated liquid dispersions. Following application to the fibers, the thermoplastic dispersions are solidified by simple cooling; no solvent removal or drying step is required.
