摘要: The present invention provides variable spot size illuminators that provide a light spot on a treatment plane by utilizing a zoom lens to direct light received from an image of a light source formed on an intermediate image plane onto the treatment plane. The zoom lens allows varying the size of the treatment spot while ensuring that the treatment spot exhibits parfocality. An illuminator of the invention can be utilized for performing a number of ophthalmic surgical procedures, such as, photocoagulation, transpupillary thermal therapy, and photodynamic therapy.

摘要: A new and useful lighting system is provided, that is particularly useful as a lighting system for a deck (e.g. a ship deck), where pilots taking off from or landing on the deck often use night vision goggles. In addition, a new and useful optical projection structure for a portion of the lighting system is provided. The lighting system comprises at least a pair of lighting subsystems that project light to a volume space with different spatial distributions. One subsystem projects light to the volume space with a predetermined spatial distribution, and the other lighting subsystem projects light to the volume space with a different spatial distribution, in a manner that effectively supplements the projected light from the first subsystem, so as to provide a lighting system that effectively illuminates the entire volume space. Moreover, the system is designed to be particularly compatible with the optical capabilities of night vision goggles. The system is designed to substantially filter out light in a predetermined wavelength band that is “out of band” of night vision goggles (i.e. the wavelength band at which light vision goggles operate), so that the projected light effectively illuminates the deck, and does not interfere with the vision of pilots who are using night vision goggles. The new optical projection structure is particularly useful in projecting light from a source (e.g. an array of light emitting diodes [“LEDs”]) to a volume space, while minimizing the overall size of the projection structure, and maintaining good projection efficiency.

摘要: A barrier composition which is injection mouldable and able to be made into a transparent film or incorporated (by co-extrusion and/or lamination) into multi-layer film products, the composition on dry basis: a) from 45 to 90% by weight of a starch and/or a modified starch selected from starches modified by reaction with a hydroxyl alkyl group, an acetate or a dicarboxylic acid anhydride or a grafting polymer; b) from 4 to 12% by weight of a water soluble polymer selected from polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylacetate, and copolymers of ethylene and vinylalcohol which have a melting point compatible with the molten state of the starch components c) from 5 to 45% by weight of a non-crystallising mixture of sorbitol and at least one other plasticizer selected from glycerol, maltitol, xylitol, mannitol, glycerol trioleate, epoxidised linseed or soybean oil, tributyl citrate, acetyl tri-ethyl citrate, glyceryl triacetate, 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate; polyethylene oxide or polyethylene glycol; d) from 0.3 to 2.5 % by weight of a C12-22 fatty acid or salt; e) from 0.25% to 3% of an emulsifier system having a hydrophilic lipophilic balance value between 2 and 10. The barrier film may be co-injection moulded with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polylactic acid (PLA) for blow moulding into beverage bottles, with polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) or biodegradable polymers for high gas-barrier containers or closures, or may be co-extruded with polyethylene, polypropylene or polylactic acid for thin film packaging applications or for blow-moulded containers.

摘要: A blister package consists of a backing sheet (16) of cardboard, paper or plastic adhered to a blister (17) in which at least one or both of the backing sheet and the blister is made from a transparent water soluble thermoformable polymer composition. A tooth brush, cleaning utensil or garden utensil enclosed in the water soluble packaging material can be opened by placing it under running water. The packaging material is a starch or modified starch based polymer by direct contact with water, and that biodegrades in waste water. The preferred starch is a high amylose maize starch. The starch can also be derived from wheat, potato, rice, oats, arrowroot and pea sources. The backing sheet is adhered to water and applying the backing sheet with the use of a press plate (24).
