摘要:
A heating device for heating corrosive vapours includes a casing defining a vapour flow path having an inlet and an outlet. A tubular metallic electric resistance heating element is disposed in the flow path and arranged such that the vapours being heated successively pass in opposite directions along the interior and exterior of the element in flowing from the inlet to the outlet of the casing. To accomodate thermal expansion and contraction, one end of the element is connected to the casing by means of a flexible coupling there being provision to maintain at least a part of the flexible coupling immersed in a body of an electrically non-conductive liquid capable of shielding the coupling from the corrosive vapours during operation of the device. The non-conductive liquid may be maintained in the liquid state by circulation through a heat exchanger. The heating element may be made, for example, of platinum or a platinum alloy and the flexible coupling, for example, of a braid of such a metal or alloy or of tantalum. Preferably the apparatus is used to preheat titanium tetrachloride vapour for use in the manufacture of titanium dioxide by oxidation thereof. Where titanium tetrachloride vapour is to be heated the non-conductive liquid used is preferably titanium tetrachloride liquid.

A barrier layer device is formed of an underlying biocompatible structure having a barrier layer coating that can exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, non-inflammatory properties, and/or adhesion-limiting properties, as well as generate a modulated healing effect on injured tissue. As implemented herein, the barrier layer is a non-polymeric cross-linked gel derived at least in part from a fatty acid compound, and may include a therapeutic agent. The underlying structure can be in the form of a surgical mesh. The barrier device is further provided with reinforced sections or portions to aid with the fastening of the barrier device for implantation purposes and prohibits or substantially reduces the occurrence of excessive stretching and tearing. The barrier device is implantable in a patient for short term or long term applications, and can include controlled release of the therapeutic agent.

A unitarily molded, snap-on heat shield for a standard automotive battery container having handle brackets extending from opposing side walls of the container, the heat shield having wedge-shaped coupling protrusions extending inwardly from cantilevered flaps in the heat shield side walls, the wedge-shaped protrusions riding along the handle brackets to cantilever the flaps away for the container side wall as the shield in moved downward over the container, the flaps snapping back inward toward the battery container as the protrusions pass the handle bracket to couple the heat shield to the battery container.
