    摘要: A system to protect structures in a marine environment from the effects of an impact force. The system includes a plurality of floatable devices (panels) and a plurality of fibrous networks. The fibrous networks include high tenacity fibers which extend at least in a generally horizontal direction and are in communication with the plurality of floatable panels. The plurality of fibrous networks are disposed in a generally parallel arrangement with respect to each other and are vertically spaced apart by a distance not exceeding about 12 inches (30.5 cm). The system is designed to be spaced from the structure to be protected.

    摘要: A motion control system includes a signal conduit to which the various devices of the system, such as a motion controller and motor drive modules, are linked. The modules are intertied such that the order of the modules along the signal conduit does not affect system operability. In one embodiment, the signal conduit includes a substantially rigid substrate having a plurality of electrically conductive lines formed in one or more layers of the substrate. The substrate may include a one-piece construction to which the motion controller, drives, and other devices are attached, or the substrate may be in the form of a plurality of couplers joined one to the other by connectors. For the latter, the various modules of the system include a coupler with connectors which allow the various modules to be easily connected without the need for any tools and without concern for the order in which the modules are attached. In another embodiment, a flexible cable (such as a ribbon cable) forms part or all of the signal conduit which connects the various devices of the system. In either embodiment, a “plug-and-play” motion control system is provided which requires little or no technical expertise to assemble, install, and operate.

    摘要: An x-ray tomography apparatus has a couch for a human subject to lie on, a cylindrical capsule to enclose part of the body, a flexible water filled bag to stabilize a portion of the human body being x-rayed, an x-ray source mounted on a rotatable frame, and an arcuate row of x-ray detector plates enclosed in a metal container filled with xenon gas. The detector plates are positioned on the rotatable frame opposite the x-ray source so that the x-ray pass through the subject and are received by the detector plates. The detector plates and x-ray source are continuously rotatable about the subject, having slip ring power and electrical connections. The couch is servo motor powered and is switched at the completion of one rotation of the rotatable frame to automatically index the subject forward. By continuous rotation of the x-ray source and detector plates and automatic indexing of the subject the continuous operation of the tomograph is possible and multiple observations on the subject can be made in a short time. The x-ray data obtained can be analyzed mathematically, e.g., by a computer program, and displayed in visual or numerical form by conventional techniques.

    摘要: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for electronically gearing the sewing parts of a sewing machine, and more particularly it relates to electronically gearing the bobbin to the needle to eliminate the necessity of their physical coupling through mechanical linkages and drive shafts. Servo motors provide torque to the needle, bobbin, and various other sewing parts of the sewing machine which require concerted movement. A computer uses servo motor positional information to calculate motion commands that are sent to the needle and bobbin servo motors, thereby enabling electronic gearing of the bobbin to the needle so that each moves substantially in unison. Motion commands sent to servo motors attached to various other sewing parts of the sewing machine are based on servo motor positional information to enable the sewing parts to move in concert with the needle and bobbin. Servo motors move the sewing material in two dimensions during stitching, and each move of the sewing material is calculated to consume the maximum amount of time available between stitches in order to dampen acceleration and deceleration of sewing parts and eliminate problems associated with machine jerk.

    摘要: An identification circuit for use in identifying at least two integrated circuits having the same logic function but different input/output characteristics, each circuit having first and second isolated power supply conductors. A unilateral current conducting circuit having an input and an output is coupled between the first and second power supply conductors via conductive jumpers in all but one of the identifiable integrated circuits. The conductive jumpers are removed for one integrated circuit family. The other integrated circuit families have unique combinations of a resistor and at least one serially coupled diode wherein a predetermined potential is required to induce current to flow therethrough for each family. The potential of the first power supply conductor is increased in predetermined steps until current flow is detected, or a predetermined maximum potential is reached. The combination of the presence or absence of current flow and the potential at the first power supply conductor associated therewith provide the identification of the integrated circuit.
