Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for preparing a thermoplastic polyurethane having a low glass transition temperature. The process according to the present invention comprises the steps of providing at least one polyol composition (P) comprising a poly-ε-caprolactone polyol (P1), and a second polyol (P2) which is different from the first polyol (P1), and reacting the at least one polyol composition (P) with at least one polyisocyanate (P1) and at least one low molecular weight diol (CE) optionally in the presence of at least one catalyst (CA) and/or at least one additive (AD) to obtain a thermoplastic polyurethane. The present invention is also directed to the thermoplastic polyurethane obtained according to the process of the present invention and the use thereof in extruded articles and injection molded articles.

Abstract: Described herein is a process for preparing a foam (FA) with a Poisson's ratio in the range of from −0.5 to 0.3, the method including the steps of providing a foam (F1) with a flow resistance in the range of from 3000 to 8000 Pas/m, determined according to DIN EN 29053, and subjecting the foam (F1) to thermoforming including triaxial compression, wherein the foam (F1) is not reticulated prior to step (ii). Also described herein is the foam obtained or obtainable according to the process and the use of the foam as, for example, an energy absorbing device, preferably in protective gear, furniture, cushions, in cleaning devices with improved rinse-out behavior, in shoe soles, or as sealing, insulating or anchorage providing material for example used in earphones, ear plugs or dowels, or as acoustic material.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing a polyurethane elastomer, said method comprising the step of reacting at least one isocyanate composition (ZI) and one polyol composition (ZP) comprising a poly-ε-caprolactone polyol and an α-hydro-ω-hydroxy-poly(oxytetramethylene) polyol to obtain an isocyanate-functional prepolymer and the step of reacting the prepolymer obtained as per step (i) with at least one chain extender (KV). The present invention further relates to a polyurethane elastomer obtained or obtainable according to a method of the invention and also to the method of using a polyurethane elastomer according to the invention or a polyurethane elastomer obtained or obtainable according to a method of the invention in the manufacture of a shaped article, especially a damping element, a shock absorber or a stop buffer or part of a shoe or of a shoe sole, for example part of an insert sole or of a midsole.

Abstract: A crosslinked polyurethane obtainable by a process is disclosed wherein polyisocyanates are mixed with polymeric compounds having at least two hydrogen atoms reactive toward isocyanate groups and comprising at least one diene block copolymer which has at least two hydrogen atoms reactive toward isocyanate and has a polydiene main chain and at least one side chain or terminal chain composed of a polyether and/or a polyester, where the proportion by weight of the polydiene main chain is, based on the total weight of the diene block copolymer, from 25 to 95% by weight, to give a reaction mixture that is cured. Composites and blends composed of crosslinked polyurethane and rubber are also disclosed, as well as the use of crosslinked polyurethane in the production of tires or parts of tires, cable sheathing, shoe sole, roller or hose.
