摘要: Provided are methods for the pretreatment of ligno-cellulosic biomass such as softwoods with bisulfite such as ammonium bisulfite without the need for exogenous acid. In one variation, a method of pretreating ligno-cellulosic biomass is provided including the following steps: a) providing ligno-cellulosic biomass; b) contacting the ligno-cellulosic biomass with a solution comprising bisulfite at an amount between 1 and 10% of a dry weight of the ligno-cellulosic biomass to form a slurry; c) heating the slurry to a first temperature of 150-210° C. for a first period of time to form a first mixture; d) cooling the first mixture to a second temperature of 100-200° C. to form a second mixture; and e) maintaining the second mixture at the second temperature for a second period of time to form pretreated ligno-cellulosic biomass; wherein the first temperature is higher than the second temperature.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a solid lignocellulosic hydrolysate and methods to prepare the solid lignocellulosic hydrolysate from a woody biomass or an herbaceous biomass. The solid lignocellulosic hydrolysate may be used in the production of biofuels, bioproducts, and food products. The solid lignocellulosic hydrolysate allows for ease of storage, ease of transportation and handling of the solid lignocellulosic hydrolysate, and ease of use in biological or fermentation processes or chemical processes for the production of biofuel, bioproducts, chemicals and food products due to the bulk handling characteristics (e.g., solubility and rate of dissolution) of the solid lignocellulosic hydrolysate.

摘要: The present invention provides landscape edging blocks, block systems, and methods of manufacturing such blocks and block systems. Landscape edging blocks of the invention can be used to separate landscape regions from each other. For example, landscape edging blocks of the invention can be used to separate a lawn from a decorative bed or garden such as those containing flowers, shrubs, trees, and the like. Landscape edging blocks of the invention preferably include a display surface wherein aggregate material of the landscape edging block is exposed on at least a portion of the display surface to a greater degree than on at least one other surface of the landscape edging block. Also, landscape edging blocks of the invention preferably include an overlapping engagement system for positioning adjacent block with respect to each other. The overlapping system inhibits growth of grass or other vegetation between two adjoining blocks. Landscape edging blocks of the invention may be straight or curved, thus allowing multiple blocks to be assembled to form various configurations.

摘要: An apparatus and method for positioning an animal guard on a transformer insulator elevated a remote distance above the ground by an individual located on the ground is provided. The apparatus includes an elongated pole and a guard applicator. The pole has a first end positionable near the ground and a second end extendible so that the second end is positionable adjacent the insulator. The guard applicator has a first end and a second end, the first end connected to the second end of the elongated pole, the second end having a pair of outer prongs spaced apart a distance from one another so that the outer prongs are slidably positionable into a pair lateral loops formed on the guard. The second end of the applicator having a pair of support surfaces positioned adjacent the outer prongs to support the guard in cooperation with the outer prongs in a substantially horizontal position when the guard is positioned on the applicator with the outer prongs positioned in the lateral loops of the guard device and the pole is in a substantially vertical orientation.

摘要: The disclosure is directed to landscape edging, such as blocks. Multiple blocks can be assembled to form a border around flower beds, trees, and other landscaping. A first end of the edging block includes a groove or mortise engageable with a second end of a second edging block having a tongue or tenon. The overlapping system inhibits growth of grass or other vegetation between two adjoining blocks. The edging includes a lip on at least one side that may function as a mowing strip or ledge. The block may be straight or curved, thus allowing multiple blocks to be assembled to form various configurations.
