A wound closure tape applicator has an elongated trapeziform casing partitioned into a front supply chamber for a roll of adhesive tape carried on a backing strip or liner and a trapeziform rear storage chamber for collecting waste backing strip. Front and bottom walls of the casing form a tape outlet slot in a lower front corner of the supply chamber. A cylindrical post extending horizontally between the casing sidewalls internally adjacent the slot guides the tape downwardly along the front wall. A front end portion of the bottom wall projects upwardly close to the underside of the post and guides the liner rearwardly to peel it away from the tape as the latter is pulled downwardly through the opening. A false bottom wall in the casing guides the liner rearwardly along the bottom wall beneath the partition into the rear chamber. The front wall includes a brake flap which is resiliently deflectable to press the tape against the post to separate an applied segment of the tape from the roll along the perforations and to control tension in the tape being applied. The tape but not the liner is perforated and notched at regular intervals along its length. The tape is preset or "aged" in roll form so that when the waste liner is fed into the storage chamber it will coil without regard to the shape of the chamber.

A child-resistant liquid dispenser, such as a trigger sprayer, includes a dispenser body, a pump mechanism having a pump piston, and a trigger connected to the pump piston so that movement of the trigger effectuates movement of the pump piston. The pump mechanism is configured to draw liquid into an intake port of the dispenser body and discharge it through a discharge port upon reciprocating movement of the pump piston. The child-resistant liquid dispenser also includes a first locking mechanism which is engageable with the pump piston in a manner to prevent movement of the pump piston when in a locked position. The first locking mechanism is configured to permit normal movement of the pump piston when in an unlocked position. The child-resistant liquid dispenser further includes a second locking mechanism. The second locking mechanism is configured to releasably engage the first locking mechanism in a manner to releasably retain the first locking mechanism in its locked position.

The present invention is an inflation system utilizing an inflation device and an adaptor therefor. The inflation device includes a cylindrical housing which receives a pressurized cartridge of gas, a head unit, and a nozzle. The head unit of the device includes structure for creating and delivering a metered bolus of gas per each actuation of the device. The device audibly indicates to the user when a single bolus of gas has been successfully delivered to an inflatable bladder. In another aspect of the invention, an elastomeric inflation port which serves as an adaptor for connecting the inflation device of the invention to an inflatable bladder is provided. The inflation port of the invention may also function as a fluid release mechanism to vent fluid from the bladder.

An improved noninvasive, electrooptical sensor probe is suitable for removable adhesive attachment to the skin of a patient to measure light extinction during transillumination of the blood-perfused tissue beneath the skin. The probe has a flexible generally U-shaped, web-like support structure having spaced, opposed upper and lower inner surfaces. A light source such as an LED is mounted in the support structure and positioned to emit light from one of the inner surfaces. A photosensor is also mounted in the support structure and positioned on the other of the inner surfaces to detect light emitted by the light source. A U-shaped alignment member is disposed in the support structure and extends substantially from the light source to the photosensor to hold the probe into the desired shape for use and aid in aligning the LED and photosensor.

An apparatus for determining spectral absorption by a specific substance in a fluid having an energy source, a sensor an interface device, a support structure and a connector. The energy source directs energy having a predetermined wavelength into the fluid. The sensor produces an electrical output reflecting the energy it senses and indicative of the spectral absorption of the energy by the specific substance. The interface means generates a reference voltage to allow the apparatus to cooperate with prior art devices. A support means secures the other elements in proximity to the fluid. The connector communicates electrical signals to a remote display device.
