    摘要: An electromagnetic actuator having an integral calibration mechanism for easy adjustment of armature response times. An additional (secondary) coil is incorporated into the device for providing a magnetic field opposing the magnetic field produced by the actuator's primary coil. A variable resistive element, used in conjunction with the secondary coil, provides a means for adjusting the current flow through the secondary coil and thereby the strength of the resultant magnetic field experienced by the armature. Since an is armature's response is proportional to the strength of the magnetic field to which it is subjected, this invention provides a means of calibrating the armature response times of an actuator. The availability of establishing a uniform, desired response results in improved multiple actuator system functionality and more reliable actuator interchangeability.

    摘要: An electromagnetic fuel injector is disclosed having an orificed fuel injector plate, mounted downstream of a solenoid actuated valve and an associated main orifice passage opened and closed by the valve, to receive fuel when the valve is moved to an open position from an associated valve seat for controlling and directing fuel flow from the injector. The director plate is provided with a plurality of injection orifices to direct fuel streams towards the valve head of an engine intake poppet valve while avoiding targeting the valve stem to thereby reduce the incidence of fuel reflection from the valve stem and associated intake surface wetting.

    摘要: An electromagnetic fuel injector for delivering fuel to an internal combustion engine having a solenoid energizeable by an electrical signal from a controller to establish a magnetic field operable to lift a valve member from a seat. The solenoid assembly having a tubular pole piece with an area of increased reluctance adjacent the working surface of the pole piece and an adjustment rod disposed for movement within the high reluctance region to thereby vary the location at which the high reluctance region begins. Leakage flux from the high reluctance region of the magnetic circuit may be directed to operate on a particular element of the magnetic circuit based on the location of the adjustment rod thereby allowing the leakage flux to exert a force on the element to thereby vary the dynamic response characteristics of the injector.

    摘要: A system and method for controlling an injection time of a fuel injector. The system includes a drive circuit configured to output a drive signal having a pulse width, wherein the injection time is influenced by the pulse width and a closing electrical decay of the fuel injector. A controller is configured to determine the closing electrical decay of the fuel injector and adapt the pulse width based on the closing electrical decay to control the injection time. The closing electrical decay includes a closing response. The controller determines the closing response based on an injector signal, such as a coil voltage of the fuel injector. By determining the closing response, the pulse width can be adjusted to compensate for fuel injector part-to-part variability, fuel injector wear, variations in fuel pressure received by the fuel injector, dirt in the fuel injector, and the like.

    摘要: An electromagnetic actuator having an integral capacitor and secondary coil for reducing opening and closing response times without the need for switching circuits. The secondary coil produces a magnetic field during energization which aids the primary coil in opening the actuator. A capacitor progressively reduces the current flow through the secondary coil as it charges up. During deenergization, the capacitor discharges through the secondary coil, producing a magnetic field which opposes the primary coil's residual magnetic field and aids the closing of the actuator.

    摘要: An electromagnetic fuel injector and novel method for assembly and calibration having a solenoid assembly with a pole piece, a valve assembly including an armature, and a working air gap separating the valve assembly from the pole piece when the injector is in a de-energized state. A shim having a thickness equivalent to the length of the working air gap is placed between the pole piece and the valve member during construction of the injector. Following assembly, a solvent is introduced into the injector to dissolve the shim, which is constructed of a material readily dissolvable in the desired solvent, to define the working air gap and, therefore, the static flow through the injector.
