    摘要: A method is provided for making flame retardant polycarbonates by phosgenating a mixture of bisphenols having up to about 50 mole % of tetrahalobisphenols, such as tetrabromobisphenols. There is employed a mixture of a phase transfer catalyst and a tertiary organic amine to provide high molecular weight copolymer without excessive phosgene usage.

    摘要: Polycarbonates containing aliphatic dicarboxylic ester groups, and having glass transition temperatures and processing temperatures lower than the corresponding homopolycarbonates are prepared via an intermediate which is in turn prepared from a dihydroxyaromatic compound and a C.sub.4-6 aliphatic dicarboxylic acid anhydride, preferably succinic anhydride. Phosgenation of said intermediate produces the desired soft segment polycarbonate.

    摘要: Polycarbonates are prepared from dihydric phenols, carbonate precursors, an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having from 4 to 8 carbon atoms, and a catalyst selected from the group consisting of phase transfer catalysts and trialkylamines, wherein the initial pH is maintained from 3 to 8 until 40 to 90 percent of the total amount of carbonate precursor is added, and the pH is then raised to 10-12 until the reaction is complete.

    摘要: Branched polycarbonates are prepared by melt equilibration of aromatic cyclic polycarbonate oligomers with a polyhydric phenol having more than two hydroxy groups per molecule, preferably 1,1,1-tris-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane, in the presence of a carbonate equilibration catalyst, preferably tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylborate. In an additional embodimetn of the invention, a linear aromatic polycarbonate is added to the reaction mixture. Branched polycarbonates prepared according to this inventin have high melt strength and high shear sensitivity characteristics and are useful in extrusion and injection molding processing applications and particularly useful in blow molding applications for preparing relatively large articles and panels.
