The natural oil-based petrolatum composition includes the esterification product of: about 0.1 wt % to about 40 wt % a fatty acid dimer, about 99.9 wt % to about 60 wt % of one or more components selected from the group consisting of C1-C6 polyols, natural oils, fatty acids, and acyls glycerols, wherein the natural based petrolatum product has a cone penetration value of greater than 10 and a polydispersity index greater than 1.3. Natural oil-based petrolatum compositions can be used in personal care products.

    摘要: Aspects of the present invention provide methods of drying lecithin in a batch reaction, comprising the steps of obtaining a lecithin-containing material (derived from a crude refining stream) comprising 15-50% water, 10-30% acetone insoluble matter, and 10-20% free fatty acid; adding a fatty acid source (also derived from a crude refining stream) to the lecithin-containing material composition to obtain a lecithin/fatty acid reaction mixture; and blowing dry gas through the gum/fatty acid reaction mixture to obtain a resultant dried lecithin fatty acid blend having a water content of less than 2%. The resultant dried lecithin fatty acid blend may be used in asphalt or oil field applications.

An emulsifier has the structure R1—C(O)-A-(CH2)n—N(R2) (R3), or a salt thereof wherein the —N(R2)(R3) nitrogen is quaternized as —N+(R2)(R3)(R4), or an N-oxide thereof wherein the —N(R2) (R3) nitrogen is oxidized as —N+(R2)(R3)(O−). The variable A is —NH— or —O—. The variable R1 is chosen from (C4-C22)alkyl, substituted (C4-C22)alkyl, (C4-C22)alkenyl, and substituted (C4-C22)alkenyl. The variables R2 and R3 are each independently chosen from (C1-C10)alkyl and substituted (C1-C10)alkyl. The variable R4 is chosen from —H, (C1-C20)hydrocarbyl, and substituted (C1-C20)hydrocarbyl. The variable n is 1 to 10. Various embodiments include methods of making the emulsifier such as from a fatty acid source and an amine starting material, emulsions including the emulsifier and methods of making the same, and methods of using the emulsion including contacting asphalt or bitumen with the emulsion.

    摘要: A method for producing a blown and stripped biorenewable oil is provided. The method may include the steps of (a) heating a biorenewable oil to at least 90° C.; (b) exposing an oxygen containing stream to the heated oil to produce a blown oil having a viscosity of at least 40 cSt at 40° C.; (c) adding a base metal catalyst to the blown oil; and (d) stripping the blown oil from step (c) until the stripped oil has an acid value of from about 1 mg KOH/g to about 20 mg KOH/g; wherein the stripped oil from step (d) has a flash point of at least 220° C.
