Abstract: Flat faced track shoes attached to circular track belts employed around the periphery of pneumatic supporting carcasses can cause undesirable roughness and vibration in a vehicle equipped with such a system which can be substantially reduced by employing track shoes with a raised chevron or lug pattern disposed across at least two adjacent shoes, so that a portion of each chevron or lug pattern is split with the trailing or leading portions thereof located on adjacent track shoes, so the pattern smooths the transition between adjacent track shoes as they move into and through the footprint of the pneumatic supporting carcass. Because the individual shoes are articulated relative to one another the split chevron or lug pattern design tends to prevent dirt from packing between the chevron or lug patterns and improves the self-cleaning characteristics of the track belt. Further if the track shoes are formed of elastomer and have a slight interference fit obtained by an inverted truncated shape so they can be wedged together about the periphery of the belt, a fully sealed belt system is formed which prevents the ingress of dirt and debris between adjacent track shoes.

Abstract: Heavy duty earthmoving vehicles operating on irregular terrain experience high vehicle-to-rim-to-tire loadings which can be accommodated by a lightweight multi-piece rim assembly employing a fluted mounting bell with a mounting ring at its outboard end and a radially disposed flange or lip at its mouth to which several inwardly directed support webs of two matching roll formed rim wall halves are bolted to complete the lightweight rim which can be mounted in a cantilevered manner through the mounting ring so a support surface formed on the inner periphery of the mouth of the mounting bell is positioned closely adjacent to a cooperating hub support ring formed on the outer surface of the hub of the vehicle on which the rim assembly is mounted. This allows the heavier loadings to be transmitted through these coacting surfaces which are located remotely from the mounting ring by which the rim is attached to the outboard end of the hub.

Abstract: A pneumatic tube-tire is fabricated by applying inextensible reinforcing filaments on an oval toroidal tube member which has its major axis parallel to the axis of revolution of the resulting tube-tire carcass and providing the resulting reinforced tube-tire carcass with an inextensible circumferential belt (i.e. one that is circumferentially inextensible) about its outer periphery to maintain the tube-tire carcass in its oval configuration when the tube-tire is pressurizes. The inextensible circumfer- ential belt may be associated with rubber stock forming the tread of the tube-tire and can be formed separately or integrally with the tube-tire carcass. Preferably, the circumferential belt will contain inextensible reinforcing filaments which are oriented generally parallel to the midcircumferential plane of the tube-tire and generally normal to the reinforcing filaments surrounding the tube-tire carcass. Spaces apart roll restraining hoops are placed within the reinforcing filaments surrounding the tube-tire carcass for lateral stability.

Abstract: Circular support belts having internal, wound inextensible filaments encased in elastomer retain a plurality of circumferentially disposed track shoes which are attached to these support belts through an elastomeric couple in which shaped keepers are employed to compressively load the elastomer at the couple to secure the track shoes to the internal inextensible filaments of the support belts. A dense elastomer insulated joint is formed wherein direct physical contact by the track shoes and/or the keepers with these filaments is avoided and a resulting couple is obtained which prevents slipping movement between the track shoes and the filaments. The resulting track belt system can be employed about the periphery of pneumatic tire carcasses to increase traction, protect the carcass, etc.
