Abstract:
A method of treating porous soils to increase their waterholding capacity comprising applying an asphalt-in-water type emulsion having a median asphalt particle size of from about 0.4 to 1.0 microns to the surface of the soil to be treated. Preferably, the soil is prewet and the submicronic emulsion is applied in a dilute form having from about 1 to about 20 percent solid residue.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR TREATING PETROLEUM PRODUCT SPILLS IN DISCLOSED, WHEREBY COCONUT HUSK MATERIAL IS SPREAD ON THE SPILL TO ABSORB IT. WHEN THE SPILL IS ON FRESH OR SALT WATER IN THE FORM OF A "SLICK", THE COCONUT HUSK MATERIAL COAGULATES THE FILM, KEEPS IT FROM SINKING, AND FORMS A MASS WHICH LENDS ITSELF TO EASY REMOVAL FROM THE WATER BY MECHANICAL PICKUP AND THE LIKE.
