Abstract: A spin-on fluid filter with improved attachment and sealing with the filter head. The filter has a gasket positioned at the end of threads used to connect the filter to a filter head. The described design protects the gasket from excessive engine heat, cut or tear damage during installation, and the roll out effect of installation torque. In addition, the described attachment provides gasket protection and uniform compression of the gasket. The gasket can be any type that provides a seal which keeps external threads on the filter and the filter head dry.

Abstract: A spin-on filter cartridge assembly includes a shell, a filter element, and an end plate. The shell defines an interior cavity. The filter element is disposed within the interior cavity and includes filter media. The end plate is coupled to the shell and is sealingly engaged with the filter media. The end plate retains the filter element within the interior cavity. In some embodiments, the end plate is integrally formed as a single unitary body.

Abstract: A variable efficiency filter media. The variable efficiency filter media is a composite media formed of at least two different types of filter media, such as standard efficiency media and high efficiency media. The variable efficiency filter media has at least two different efficiency levels. The different efficiency levels can be spread across different zones. The filter media types for both the standard and high efficiency media can be spun media, melt blown media, nanofiber media, micro-glass media, cellulose media, carded staple fiber media, and the like. The variable efficiency filter media may be produced by any of an air laid or wet laid process.

Abstract: A filter cartridge including a filter media, a first end plate including a bypass flow opening, a second end plate, and a spring tube bypass assembly. The spring tube bypass assembly includes a first center tube and a spring. The spring tube bypass assembly is configured such that fluid flow through the bypass flow opening is blocked when a fluid pressure acting on the filter cartridge is below a predetermined pressure and fluid may flow through the bypass filter opening when the fluid pressure acting on the filter cartridge exceeds the predetermined pressure.
