摘要: Some aspects of the present invention are directed to unique products and methods for treating fistulae and other passageways and openings in the body. In some preferred forms, an inventive construct will include an elongate graft body that incorporates a plurality of sheet or sheet-like segments. The plurality of sheet or sheet-like segments, in some arrangements, will be stacked in a generally longitudinal direction along the length of the plug body, and optionally, the segments will be received over one or more elongate elements. Elongate elements of this sort can take a variety of forms including a suture, wire, filament, or other relatively thin-bodied elongate member, although in some forms, an elongate element will be or include a somewhat heftier structure such as a biodegradable or non-biodegradable three-dimensional body.

摘要: The present invention provides, in certain aspects, medical devices deliverable into passageways and other open spaces in the body. In one embodiment, the invention provides a fistula plug for delivery into a fistula tract. This fistula plug includes an elongate plug body, and a removable core material that is received in the plug body and effective to increase the column strength of the plug body. The plug body may be formed with one or more of a variety of biocompatible materials including some that are naturally derived and some that are non-naturally derived. The present invention also provides apparatuses and methods for delivering these and other medical devices into the body. One such apparatus includes a fistula plug having a plug body, and a removable delivery device received in the plug body, wherein the delivery device is effective to deliver the plug body into a fistula tract when advanced therethrough.

摘要: Methods of reducing retrograde fluid flow through a valve within a body vessel are provided. The methods can include the steps of identifying a valve exhibiting an undesirable amount of retrograde fluid flow within a body vessel, such as a venous valve or a heart valve, and providing a means for reducing the retrograde fluid flow. A medical device providing a desired amount of retrograde fluid flow can be modified after permitting the medical device to remain in a body cavity for a remodeling-effective time period. The implanted medical device can be modified by subsequently reducing the amount of retrograde fluid flow permitted across the implanted prosthetic valve within the body vessel.

摘要: A catheter assembly used for extracorporeal treatment, such as dialysis, of blood or other body fluid, includes an outer and inner catheter in a coaxial relationship. A fluid path is provided by a passageway defined between the catheters and a distal end of the outer catheter, and another fluid path is provided through a lumen and a distal end of the inner catheter. A sealing member is coupled to one of the catheters. The member in a first position is configured to permit the distal ends of the catheters to transport fluid, while in a second position the member is configured to inhibit at least one of the distal ends from transporting fluid. The sealing member may include a flared portion for enhance sealing. The sealing member may also have a portion extending outward from the catheters to position the distal ends away from vessel contact.

摘要: Delivery systems for delivering and deploying expandable intraluminal medical devices at a desired point of treatment within a body vessel are provided. The delivery systems comprise a sheath member and an inner member slideably disposed within a cavity formed by the sheath member. An expandable intraluminal medical device is disposed about the inner member and is initially positioned within the delivery system. A means for preventing axial movement of the inner member holds the inner member in position so that, while the delivery system and medical device are positioned at a desired point of treatment, the sheath member can be retracted while an axial position of the inner member is substantially maintained.

摘要: Medical devices for implantation within a body vessel can include a remodelable material, such as an extracellular matrix material, positioned within a lumen defined by an outer covering material. The covering material is preferably substantially non-remodelable, and can be supported by a radially expandable frame. The medical device can also include a valve means positioned within the covering material. The valve means can include one or more valve leaflets formed from the remodelable material, and a separate valve support frame. One or more therapeutic agents can be associated with the remodelable material or the covering material.

摘要: Medical devices that provide valves for regulating fluid flow through a body vessel are provided. The valves include a support frame having one or more adaptations for forming a leak path between the support frame and an interior wall of a body vessel in which the valve is implanted. A controlled amount of retrograde flow is able to flow through the leak path when the valve is implanted in a body vessel.

摘要: A delivery system and method for introducing a self-expanding prosthesis into a work site of a patient. The delivery system is introduced to the work site over an elongate guiding member. The delivery system is subsequently uncoupled from the guiding member upon deployment of the prosthesis while remaining within the work site. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the delivery system comprises an elongate outer member slidably disposed about an elongate inner member. A self-expanding prosthesis is disposed within the outer member and is laterally constrained thereby in a compressed delivery configuration, and is constrained against longitudinal movement relative to the inner member. The inner member further comprises a passageway extending through the distal portion thereof the passageway extending between a distal opening near the distal end of the inner member and a proximal opening spaced proximally from the distal end of the inner member. The outer member comprises an opening in communication with the proximal opening of the inner member. The inner and outer members are configured to allow a guiding member disposed through the passageway and openings to pass laterally out of the passageway and openings upon proximal movement of the outer member relative to the inner member and deployment of the prosthesis.
