摘要: Tissue adhesions using surgical adjuncts and medicants are provided. In general, an implantable adjunct can have one or more medicants releasably retained therein that are configured to induce tissue adhesions. The adjunct can be configured to be applied to lung tissue in conjunction with surgical staples using a surgical stapler. Pleurodesis can be encouraged through delivery of the adjunct to the lung tissue.

摘要: The present invention relates generally to agents and devices for promoting hemostasis and, more particularly, to bioresorbable hemostatic pads or patches releasably supported on non-resorbable scaffolds for ease of delivery in the field. A sealant and/or hemostat delivery device comprises a resorbable hemostatic pad having a wound facing side and an opposite back side, with a hemostatic and/or wound sealing agent disposed on the wound facing side; a non-resorbable scaffold having an attachment zone on said scaffold; wherein said hemostatic pad is releasably attached with the back side to the attachment zone. The bond between the scaffold and the resorbable hemostatic pad or wound dressing is either (i) severed prior to removal of the scaffold or (ii) is weakened due to the adhesive bonding them together being moisture-deactivated, or (iii) is released by mechanical disentanglement.

摘要: A method for coupling a body conduit to tissue is provided. The method includes engaging an implant about an outer surface of a catheter. The implant receives a bioactive agent having tissue growth properties. The method involves inserting the catheter through the body conduit and into a tissue opening across a resected area, positioning the implant in the resected area, inflating a balloon to anchor the catheter within the tissue opening such that the implant bridges the body conduit and the tissue opening across the resected area, and maintaining the catheter and the implant in vivo to enable the bioactive agent to secure the implant in the resected area to permanently bridge the body conduit and the tissue opening.

摘要: A stapling assembly comprising a tissue thickness compensator is disclosed. The tissue thickness compensator comprises a body portion comprising a porous material and a plurality of cavities defined in the body portion, wherein the cavities are aligned with forming surfaces of an anvil such that fasteners of a fastener cartridge are configured to at least one of the cavities when the fasteners are ejected from the fastener cartridge or capture the cavities and compress the cavities within the tissue thickness compensator when the fasteners are ejected from the fastener cartridge and formed by forming surfaces of the anvil. The stapling assembly further comprises at least one medicament positioned within each cavity prior to firing the stapler, wherein the medicament is different than the porous material.

摘要: Various exemplary composite adjunct materials for delivering medicants are provided. In general, the adjunct material can be configured to be delivered to tissue by deployment of staples from a cartridge body of a surgical stapler. The adjunct material includes a conformable region and a distinct reinforcing region that form the composite structure. An effective amount of at least one medicant can be disposed within and releasable from at least one of the conformable region and the reinforcing region and can provide a desired effect on tissue in-growth in a predetermined manner.
