    摘要: A field emission display. Gate electrodes are formed in a predetermined pattern on a first substrate. An insulation layer is formed on the first substrate covering the gate electrodes. Cathode electrodes are formed in a predetermined pattern on the insulation layer. Emitters are provided electrically contacting the cathode electrodes. A second substrate is provided opposing the first substrate with a predetermined gap therebetween. The first substrate and the second substrate form a vacuum container. An anode electrode is formed on a surface of the second substrate opposing the first substrate. Phosphor layers are formed in a predetermined pattern on the anode electrode. Portions of the cathode electrodes are removed to form emitter-receiving sections. Fences are formed between the emitter-receiving sections, one of the emitters being provided in each of the emitter-receiving sections electrically contacting the cathode electrodes.

    摘要: A ballistic electron surface-emitting device (BSD) emitter that can be used in a field emission display (FED). The emitter being made of metallic carbon nanotubes extending in a direction that is normal to a surface of the cathode. The carbon nanotubes are designed so that electrons therein can experience a ballistic effect where the mean free path between collisions is as large or larger than a length of the carbon nanotube and that the width of the carbon nanotube being a fermi wavelength. On an opposite end of the carbon nanotubes is a thin metal electrode layer and a thin insulating layer to protect the carbon nanotubes from damage.

In a first direction, second and third measurements of the second and third apertures are larger than a first measurement of the first apertures, and each of the emitters is realized in an integral unit.
