摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus for dispensing a beverage, the beverage comprising a liquid-beverage portion and a frozen-beverage portion. The apparatus comprises means for dispensing into a receptacle the liquid beverage portion, means (102) for freezing a portion of beverage so as to provide the frozen beverage portion and means (104, 104′ for dispensing the frozen-beverage portion into the receptacle. The present apparatus also provides a method for dispensing a frozen beverage portion by providing one or more cooling chambers (102) cooled by cooling means, supplying at least one of the cooling chambers with a portion of beverage, freezing the portion of beverage to provide at least one beverage frozen-beverage portion and ejecting one frozen beverage portion from its cooling chamber.

摘要: A pump driver, a disposable pump cartridge for use with the pump driver and a beverage dispenser employing the pump drive are disclosed. The disposable pump cartridge comprises at least one barrel 20 having an inlet valve 24 and an outlet valve 26 associated therewith. A piston 28 movable within the barrel 20 is retained in a minimum volume position during transit by a protrusion 22 on the internal surface of the barrel 20. The piston 20 has a piston shaft 28 with a hollow end arranged, in use, to releasably engage a piston driver to drive the piston 28 from its minimum volume position to an operative position, and to reciprocate the piston 28 within the barrel 20 in its operative position to draw fluid into and pump fluid from the barrel 20 via the inlet valve 24 and outlet valve 26 respectively. Methods of engaging, disengaging and changing the disposable pump cartridge are also disclosed.

摘要: A docking mechanism provided for analytical apparatus, such as an acoustic bio-sensor apparatus. The mechanism is operable releasably to receive a cartridge (58) for use in analysing a sample comprising a fluid and having a flow cell (104, 106; 304, 306) for the sample and an electrically operated sensor (92) for performing the analysis. The docking mechanism has a clamping mechanism (12, 8, 10) for urging a fluid connector such as ferules (50, 52) against the cartridge to provide a fluid connection between the flow cell inlet and a sample delivery device. The docking mechanism also has an electrical connector (74, 76, 78) for engaging the sensor to connect the latter to electrical circuitry for operating the sensor, the electrical connector being moveable towards and away from the sensor relative to the clamping mechanism, so that, in use, the electrical connector exerts on the sensor a force which is sufficient to maintain the necessary electrical connection, while not being so great as to have a substantial detrimental effect on the accuracy of the sensor. There is also shown analytical apparatus which includes such a docking mechanism.

摘要: This invention relates to medical devices for labelling a syringe filled from an ampoule, and to safer devices for filling a syringe from an ampoule, and to associated methods. We describe a device for attaching to an ampoule to label a syringe filled from the ampoule, the device comprising: an ampoule-mounting portion for mounting the device to a filled ampoule; a syringe-fitting portion to enable the device to be fitted onto said syringe; and a label holder to hold a label for contents of said ampoule; and wherein one of said syringe and said ampoule is detachable from said device; and wherein said label is configured such that in conjunction with a filling operation of said syringe and detachment of said one of said syringe and said ampoule from said device said syringe is labelled by said label.

摘要: A cartridge for apparatus for analysing a sample comprising a fluid as a flow cell for receiving the sample. The cell is formed from a substantially rigid support surface (102), a sensor comprising an electrical mechanical transducer (92), for example a wafer of quartz crystal and adhesive means, such as double sided adhesive tape (100) attaching the sensor to the support surface. The support surface and sensor are spaced from each other by a membrane, which may form part of the double sides adhesive tape so as to define the flow cell between the support surface and the sensor. The flow cell also has an opening (for example, 111) through which, in use, the sample passes. The sensor, forming part of the flow cell, comes into contact with the sample to enable the sample to be analysed.

摘要: An obstetric vacuum extractor (20) comprises a cylinder (22) communicating with a cup (26), and a handle (46) connected to a piston (38) via an extensible bias element (52) to evacuate the cup. The bias element permits relative movement between the handle and the piston. The bias element limits force transmitted to the piston, and movement of the piston relative to the handle operates an indicator to confirm that low pressure has been maintained within the cup. A cup for such an extractor comprises inner (130) and outer (132) sections, at least the outer section being reconfigurable, by applying distal force to a proximal side of the cup, from a convex insertion state for insertion into a mother's birth canal into a concave engagement state for engagement with a baby's head. A boundary between the sections is shaped such that the inner section may be concave while the outer section is convex, to create an inner suction cup.

摘要: A controller is provided for maneuvering an interrogation plane relative to a reference surface. The interrogation plane intersects the reference surface and is associated with a pole about which the interrogation plane is rotatable. The pole has an adjustable angle of inclination relative to the reference surface. The controller has a base, a handle, and an arm extending from a connection with the base to a connection with the handle. The arm has hingable joints which hinge to allow the handle to be translated relative to the base in arbitrary directions across a user surface. The controller further has position sensors which measure the translation of the handle relative to the base on the user surface. The translation provides a corresponding translation of the interrogation plane relative to the reference surface. The handle is rotatable about a rotation axis and is tillable about a tilt axis to allow the handle to be angularly moved relative to the user surface. The controller further has angle sensors which respectively detect the rotation about the rotation axis and the tilt about the tilt axis. The rotation about the rotation axis and the tilting about the tilt axis provide angular movement of the interrogation plane relative to the reference surface corresponding to the angular movement of the handle relative to the user surface.

摘要: A docking mechanism provided for analytical apparatus, such as an acoustic bio-sensor apparatus. The mechanism is operable releasably to receive a cartridge (58) for use in analysing a sample comprising a fluid and having a flow cell (104, 106; 304, 306) for the sample and an electrically operated sensor (92) for performing the analysis. The docking mechanism has a clamping mechanism (12, 8, 10) for urging fluid connector means such as ferules (50, 52) against the cartridge to provide a fluid connection between the flow cell inlet and a sample delivery means. The docking mechanism also has an electrical connector (74, 76, 78) for engaging the sensor to connect the latter to electrical circuitry for operating the sensor, the electrical connector being moveable towards and away from the sensor relative to the clamping mechanism, so that, in use, the electrical connector exerts on the sensor a force which is sufficient to maintain the necessary electrical connection, whilst not being so great as to have a substantial detrimental effect on the accuracy of the sensor. There is also shown analytical apparatus which includes such a docking mechanism.
